So if I use waze for a prolonged period of time such as a 45 minute drive my iPhone is really hot to the touch, what could be causing this? It only happens with Waze

Waze has never been an efficient app. It uses a lot of processing power and tends to heat up phones quite a bit.

Are you per-chance using a wireless charger in your car? Wireless chargers are inefficient and can exacerbate the effect of an app like Waze heating the phone. I always recommend against wireless chargers in vehicles as the heat from the sun + charging inefficiency results in toasty phones.

I have a wireless charger from MagBak and it actually includes a built in fan.

I'm not charging the iphone at all during the drive, i figured NOT having anything plugged to the phone such as the Charger would reduce heat but the iphone gets really hot and its purely due to Waze, the navigation capabilities it provides are amazing though which is what makes me keep on using it

When you drive, is your phone positioned in direct sunlight? Phone holders high up on the dashboard sometimes put the device in a real solar oven.
