Very interesting. I had the XR and when I went to upgrade yesterday I called an audible.. went with the 11P.

I really want a smaller phone and if the battery life of the 11P can be similar to the XR I will be happy. If it’s better.. well that’s just gravy. 13.1 will be out today and I will know after a few days/cycles how this 11P is doing.

So far I am really enjoying the smaller size.. and I really missed using the Apple leather cases.

You beat me to it Andrew. I was about to post that link. Totally amazing. I finally took the plunge yesterday and got an 11 Pro Max to replace my XS solely for the better battery life. I know it sounds a bit silly but, as well as wanting better battery life, I also sort of wanted to do my incredibly tiny part in giving Apple positive market feedback for having finally made a big improvement in battery life by buying this particular upgrade even though my XS is only a year old.

I charged my iPhone 11 Pro Max yesterday afternoon immediately after I unboxed it and spent a lot of yesterday evening and this morning setting it up from new (rather than restoring from a backup) - all done over WiFi so its not been plugged into any power source since it came off the charger about 20 hours ago. So far Settings tells me that I've done 6h 53m of screen time and it still shows 63% battery remaining! OK, no first-person gaming (a bit of solitaire and Mahjong only) but a lot of app downloading and installing, web browsing, general setup, a few phone calls, syncing up photos and other data, etc. Also an hour and a bit of Kindle ebook reading. This thing is a beast. I think I could probably comfortably go away for a weekend and if I forgot my charger I'd still be OK 2 or even 3 days later - for my usual use perhaps even longer than that.

I just hope Apple doesn't get silly now that it's got to this good position and revert to past behaviour in 2020 namely trying to get future models as thin as possible by reducing battery sizes. Don't get complacent Apple, keep moving forward and getting even better on battery life in 2020 and beyond, or at the very least don't take even the smallest step backwards. Perhaps having to accommodate the latest high end thicker cameras makes Apple's previous quest for thinness less possible now.

With Apple buying most of Intel's modem business it is obviously serious about developing Apple-designed modems. If those end up anything like as impressive as the Apple-designed A-series SoCs that could be a big factor moving forward because the modems are always having to keep connection with the nearest mast so are drawing power 24/7 (at least when not in aeroplane mode). Any optimisation Apple can do there with customising them tightly to its specific antennas, maybe making use of Apple's expertise in low power cores for whatever CPU capability needs to be on the modems themselves, and possibly other stuff there might be some more nice surprises possible in the future.

This is the best I've felt about Apple phones for a few years.

And to think there were people who were against Apple putting bigger batteries, there were people who would rather have a powerbank than just have a slightly thicker phone with better battery life.

Thank you Apple for ignoring them and doing the right thing!

I didn't watch the entire video so i don't know if it was mentioned but, if they aren't all new phones out of the box with new batteries, then these tests are useless.
