Based on testing, 120hz displays has a 30% hit on battery life. This is why companies like Samsung put massive batteries in their new phones.

So I expect the iPhone 11 Pro Max to outperform the iPhone 12 Pro Ultra Max in battery performance, which is one the most important performance measures (cpu performance is pointless since it is currently already overkill for 99.99999% of the users)

That’s a pretty early guess for a device that’s largely unknown. Which tests are you referring to that claim that 120 hz uses 30% more battery regardless of device and OS? Please share a link.

They tested this on the Samsung phone. You can find it by using Google.

It’s customary to back up your claims when asked so on this forum.

Who is they?

Besides, if a turbo charger gives manufacturer 1 10% boost that doesn’t automatically mean that every other manufacturer gets the same value out of it.

Which is why the iPhone 12 pro max will have an even bigger battery

4400 most likely

Both will get you through all day so a screen with 120hz is worth of over 60hz

So I fail to see how 11 pro will be best iPhone in 2021. As it won’t be.

iPhone 12 pro max will have even better features aside from 120hz

iphone 12 will be better phone than 11 pro max (besides display or third camera - as well as current offer)
and best selling iphone will be iphone 11 because price/performance ratio...

Reportedly the new 5nm chip in the iPhone 12 will be much more energy efficient which could help offset the 120hz battery hit.

Indeed! This is the big thing people are forgetting! Apple are doing a great move by bringing all these new things like 5G and 120Hz Refresh Rate Displays now with a 5nm chip rather than 7nm, they should be able to make up the power needs of 5G and 120Hz with the power efficiency of the 5nm A14 chip.

apple historically has always put a slightly smaller battery every “toc” cycle

I get the feeling they’ll up the battery, they really have to, they set a really high bar with the iPhone 11 Pro Max, and I am sure Tim Cook will without a doubt mention how much people loved the iPhone 11 Pro battery life in his keynote, lol, I can just hear it now “iPhone users say they looove the iPhone 11 battery life and that’s why we have....”
