Hi,

I'd appreciate your advice on the following.

I've been using an iPhone 8 Plus for a year now and am looking for an iPhone that is smaller and offers a better camera. I've been considering the iPhone 11, but it's almost as big and I'd certainly miss the telephoto lens.

While the iPhone 12 rumors sound very interesting, it's also quite annoying that the 5.8" size will apparently be dropped. 6.1" is too large and the new 5.4" is most likely not going to have a telephoto lens.

Of course, rumors are just rumors, but it looks like the iPhone 11 Pro is going to be the best option for me in terms of size, camera and price (it's still an expensive phone but if one thing's for sure, than it's that the iPhone 12 Pro is going to be much more expensive).

What do you think? Am I missing something here? :)

I'd say get the 11 Pro now. I was going to wait myself for the 12 Pro Max but after thinking long and hard about it I realized I couldn't wait that long and theres no telling when it will be released with what's going on.

I just upgraded my 8 Plus to the 11 Pro Max and I couldn't be happier. I thought about waiting for the 12, but decided to go with the 11 Pro since the design is tried, tested, and true. Apple sometimes has issues when they come out with all new designs. Apple devices also have good resale value, so I can always sell my 11 Pro for the 12 if it's worth it.

All of your thoughts are exactly why I replaced my iPhone X with an 11 pro today. I don’t want a bigger phone and I want the telephoto lens that likely won’t be on the smaller 12. With the rumors of a potential delay anyway along with not really wanting a launch day phone that is a brand new design, I decided to just buy the 11 pro and enjoy it while I’m home anyway😉

I’m glad you made your choice! I already have my 11 Pro Max, but I am waiting on the screen protector to come in the mail before I finally set it up. It’s been delivered since Monday and I am surprised that I haven’t tempted myself to open it yet. Luckily, since I go to work, it’s kept my mind busy lol the screen protector comes in Monday, so I have a few more days to wait! Enjoy your new phone!

That is too funny because I am doing the same! I am waiting for my case and screen protector before I even open it...I’ve been going back and forth for so long I just want the full experience lol!

I work in a machine shop and just have a mous case on. These phones are pretty tough. Just have a dedicated pocket for it, the Max is a pretty large phone, it will eat that pocket nom nom.

Edit:

debating on running it nekid..

I’m glad I’m not the only one! The first thing I put on a device before even turning it on is the screen protector. It’s funny, I have the case, I have the phone. I just don’t have the screen protector because it’s just been delayed (understandable with what’s going on, but I am patient). Any other thing I order will come no problem, but of course the one thing I’m looking forward to the most that will get me to actually use the phone will come last lol just how the universe works! But yes, I am awaiting the unboxing experience and having to finally set it up and play with it. It’s like Christmas morning for me lol

That's a very good argument that I hadn't considered before. It definitely makes sense to get a tried and tested design, which is also why I preferred the 8 Plus over the X.

Thanks for all of your opinions and advice!
Once there's a bigger discount on the 11 Pro, I'll buy it.

100% agree, not only with iPhone, also with macbooks, ipads...

I never buy the first product of a new design.

I was having this same debate with myself, but I decided to get the 11 pro max as I'm sure the pricing is going to be crazy (at least in Canada) also availability. Got it April 6 and am very happy with my decision.

I haven't even seen any of the rumors about iPhone 12. I usually keep up on that if I'm planning to buy the new phone. I've been very happy with my XS Max that I've had since launch day, but really wanted the 11 Pro because of the camera. I've also noticed that the Max just feels so big and heavy, especially when I go hiking it feels like it is a giant weight in my pocket. So I decided to upgrade to the 11 Pro. It arrived yesterday and I already put on the screen protector and a basic case while I await my new Loopy case. The camera really is amazing! The smaller size is actually really nice, and my XS Max now feels much too heavy. I wouldn't want a phone any smaller, though, so if the rumors are true, you should probably buy the 11 Pro rather than wait for the 12.

I think unless you absolutely have to have a smaller notch the current iPhone 11 Pro is a good choice.

I personally have an XS 256GB and am waiting for the 12 Pro, but given your current 8+ you don’t seem to crave the latest designs.

You could also wait until the 12 is released, then pick up an 11 Pro for very cheap. There are always a bunch of folks selling their one year old mint condition iPhones to get the latest greatest, since Apple doesn’t give the best price on trade ins.

True, Apple no longer gives a good money on trade ins but there are other iPhone buyers out there like, for instance, itsworthmore that do. You just have to shop around. As for buying last year's iPhone when there's a brand new model on the market, I admire your ability to casually go out and buy the old style when there's an exciting new model out there that has lots of new bells and whistles. Your style of self discipline is something I sorely lack.

I used my 7 until I couldn’t, so about 3 years. Last March I got an xs max 256 for roughly half price on sale from my carrier. To me it was still a lot of money compared to what I paid for my 7. I don’t mind not having the newest.. and besides.. it still destroys my 7 in every possible way.

So many rumours and unknowns about the possible capabilities of the expected 12/12Pro/12ProMax. Until we have confirmation from Apple themselves everything is speculation.

With that in mind I decided it was time to move up from my XR as I really wanted a Pro model because of the enhanced camera and, to a lesser extent, a smaller form factor. I subsequently bought an 11 Pro two weeks ago from my local John Lewis (a major uk retailer) as they were offering it with a £125 discount off the Apple retail price plus the benefit of their excellent two year warranty. I did, however, also purchase AppleCare+ just to be on the safe side.

So far the phone has performed exactly as I hoped it would and I’m extremely pleased with it. Once the new iPhones are confirmed and released I will be able to make an informed decision as to if it is a must have for me. Normally, when I buy a new iPhone I sell my old one to help offset the cost of the new one. As it happens, I sold my XR for over half the price it cost from Apple even though it was twenty months old! However, my wife has already said she will have my 11 Pro if and when I decide to upgrade again...happy days!

lm very pleased with my new 11 Pro and glad I didn’t wait for a phone that might not have the specification I desire. If you want something and have the means to obtain it then, personally, I advise to go ahead and don’t delay...you never know what tomorrow might bring and you could be missing out on something that is exactly what you want.

Hope this helps,

Andy 👍

But we are a month (+ -) away to know what the 12s have to offer.

Buying today the 11P is not a smart decision IMO; in fact it would be cheaper once the 12 is released.
