I am curious if anybody has tried Portrait Mode on an inanimate object (i.e. not a person). My iPhone Xs kind of sucks at it -- at least the kind of pictures I use it for. Surprisingly my single camera Pixel 2 works much better.

You can seeing the photo below, the software has blurred out the back half of the glass and the stem is just messed up. But the beer coaster is in focus

This one with the Pixel 2 is better. The back of the glass and the stem are out of focus but they are there (and not messed up)

If somebody could take a similar picture (glass of wine?) with the 11Pro I'm curious if it has the same issues. Apple said they were working on it but I'd like to know before I shell out.

And yes, I am a terrible photographer and there are ways to minimize this effect. Thanks in advance.

Here’s a few shots with my iPhone 11 Pro. In some instances it’s ok, in others, not so much. Definitely needs some work when shooting objects.

Curious to see what others are experiencing.

Honestly, your angles between the two photos are different. I can understand what your saying to some extent, but it’s hard to verify when the photos weren’t shot equally.

The portrait mode is a processing of 2 photo, you should semplificate the process with a correct shot of the subject :)
