I really love the phone and I guess if 'pro' is what they're calling their best phone, then it deserves the name. But it did just come out, so it's inevitable that it'll top the charts for a brief time until other phones catch up. If it still holds its own in six months, that would be impressive!

I’ve met with, worked with, and know a lot of professionals (engineers, doctors, dentist, photographers, etc.) and am a retired professional engineer, however I (nor anyone else that I know) never met nor heard of a professional cell phone user.
Definition of a professional: “
engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.
"a professional boxer"”.

Professional (Pro is an acceptable shortened form for professional) cell phone user. :)
Gotta love the marketing people. Note that this silly junk is not unique to Apple :)

It's meant as a 'Professional quality' a Pro product where the components are of a standard outside of the mainstream. Coming from a broadcasting background, we in radio use 'Pro grade' products - products that ultimately have a longer life in daily use or can be thrown around / given extreme use and still perform under exceptional demanding situations. These include Technics SL1200 turntables and Pioneer CDJ2000 Nexus media players along with the Professional grade SONY & Tascam units. I guess a MacBook Pro kind of fits into this category/environment but it's rather fragile and easily broken compared to the other 'Professional' grade units that I've mentioned. The mentioned are used 24 hours a day 7 days a week and perform for 10 - 15 years (20 years from a Technics SL1200 is not uncommon). Sadly, a Mac won't do that - so maybe Pro is not the word for Apple - the old Marketing guy Phil was being very stupid at the event with his overuse of Pro. It was very unprofessional of him. :) :) :)

On the other hand I know so many professional iPad, MacBook, and iMac users it’s ridiculous. I even know a pro AirPod user.. I think he may be making that one up..

The whole ‘Pro’ moniker, Apple only used that to separate the newest iPhones with the ‘best’ camera. That’s why they did that this year, because they want to show the consumer if they want the best iPhone, then it has ‘Pro’ incorporated into the title.

They should be bold and just say “good, better, best”. :p.
This whole “pro” thing (and it’s not unique to Apple) is just a bunch or marketing bs anyway. :).

Pro just means the best quality product in the lineup. I bought the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for my switch to enjoy better comfort and performance, but I don't play professionally.

Best Display
Longest Lasting Battery
Best Performance
Best Camera
Most Durable

Are all things I'd expect from as bare MINIMUM from a phone that costs £1000+, so nope theres nothing Pro about it.

Yet still I want one.

Then you should expect all that from the latest Galaxy Note too yet it doesn't seem to meet any of them.

Regardless, it’s still called the iPhone Pro..🤷‍♂️
