Folks, coming from a XS max, this screen is stunning. I can’t stop staring at it.

This reminds me the jump from the 6S to the 7. The colors are richer and the brighter display really makes them pop more. It really does.

I wasn’t sure how much of a difference I’d see, especially hearing a lot of people say “they basically look the same”, or that “you can’t tell when they aren’t side by side”.

Even before buying one, I checked it out at the Apple store against my XS Max, and honestly saw a very mild difference.

I’m here to tell you that after a week with the 11 Pro that the screen is a big difference in color richness and brightness levels. Obviously you can see it better in the day, but the colors and contrast ratio really pop at night.

The Apple iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro both come with a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display that has a 2436 x 1125 pixel resolution, delivering a pixel density 458ppi

The only difference is 175 nits which is a tad tad bit brighter than a XS.

I notice no difference in screen quality but Im glad you like the upgrade. I have both phones right now and def like the 11 Pro more.

No, the 11 Pro has a Super Retina XDR display instead. It also has a 2000000:1 contrast ratio compared to the Super Retina’s 1000000:1 contrast ratio.

They honestly looked 100% identical to me, the contrast ratio thing is purely marketing speak to me given true blacks are true blacks period.

But if you have sensitive enough eyes to detect the differences then happy to hear you’re enjoying the new display.

I think saying it’s the same as sRGB to p3 is a stretch, and even that was a minor difference itself.

I’m not sure there are different contrast ratios of oled
true black is true black

Apple is marketing it that way.

You’re 100% correct that true black is true black. But people sip the Apple marketing kool aid. Apple has one of the best marketing teams on the planet.

The only thing true black is representative of pixels being shut off on an OLED display
regardless of the contrast ratio.

The contrast ratio difference is definitely double as delpit pointed out.
The colors are more vibrant. It isn't a day and night difference to me personally but
the display does look nicer. It's something that quite a few tech reporters have mentioned too.

I didn’t take into account the higher nits of this OLED screen
The blacks didn’t move, the brights did

If the phone gets brighter then, in conjunction with the infinite black levels, the contrast is improved which will make better picture quality.

Although it’s double the contrast ratio of the XS. I would say it’s about a 20-25% increase in color richness to my eye, and the brighter display makes it pop a bit more.

It’s certainly a significant enough difference that I notice it everyday and appreciate how much the display improved.

For me the iPhone X screen is already very good and display plus night mode alone won't justify upgrading just yet for me. I'll hold on until iPhone 12 Pro at least.

As for contrast ratio I think they meant the whites are even brighter now, hence you can achieve that 1:2,000,000 contrast on an OLED but blacks are still ... well black. Also the colors are still P3 you guys just perceive a difference because of the increased brightness but the array of colors from XS to 11 Pro should be the same.

I filmed my son playing football this weekend and the 4K video looked fantastic on this screen

Do you have any color tint issue?

Easiest way to spot the problem is to display 50% grey image [This Site]

Look at the phone straight-on. Can you observe any uneven shade of grey? My Pro Max has pink tint around the bottom of the screen. This is easy to spot in white BG.

Please check my thread here.

Just curious did you go Max to Pro Max or Max or to regular Pro?

More I use this phone, the more I appreciate the screen
I’ve watched some of my 4K hdr movies on Apple TV and they look great on this display

Comparing the xs max and the 11 pro max, I cannot tell a difference when comparing side by side. Outside daylight, the pro max is super bright so maybe that’s where the difference is.

Comparing my Pro Max next to my XS Max, it is noticeably brighter with both at full brightness: I dropped the Pro Max down to about 80% to get it comparable to the XS Max at 100% brightness. They’re very similar when the output level matches.

Screen is a big improvement over iPhone XS Max and the 11 Pro Max
Is impressive to say the least
