Hello!

Ive recently bought my wife a purple iPhone 11, she’s made up with it. Just got a couple of questions.

Number 1 - the microphone mesh on the rear camera seems a bit squashed in/dented is this normal?

Number 2 - the screen image seems a bit softer on the edges, especially around the edge of the notch, nowhere near as sharp as my 11 pro. Its a bit shadowy almost. I’d post a pic but don’t have it to hand. I assume it could be because it’s LCD but not sure.

Thanks very much.

Stay safe!

I've had in hand iphone 11's with shadow edges and without. It's the screen panel lottery. The shadow can easily be gotten used to if you don't compare it.

Not sure about the microphone mesh.

My purple iPhone 11 arrived yesterday. My screen is fine, I don’t see any softness around the edges/notch. Also my microphone mesh seems completely flat. I‘m not sure if the picture helps.

Thanks for the replies and thanks for the photo. I've done some more digging and seems to be a bit of a mixed bag, especially with the screens!

My wife seems happy enough with it so Im not going to worry. I seem to care more about these sort of things than she does!

Cheers.

If you ever get a chance to take a picture of the soft edges I can check my new 11 when it arrives in a couple of days

Answer is :
It’s somewhat easier to round the corners of an OLED panel: each pixel is its own light source, so you can turn them off individually around the curve to smooth it out. You can’t do that with an LCD panel because there’s just one single backlight for the entire display, which will shine through the black pixels along the edge. So Apple built little apertures for the pixels around the corners of the XR display to mask some of the light coming through, on top of antialiasing the curve in software. It’s a neat example of Apple’s attention to detail.

The screen is less sharp because the 11 has 326ppi whereas the 11 pro has 458ppi.
