I'm looking for a bit of advice.

I was thinking to order up the iPhone 11 but on comparing to my current iPhone 7 Plus, I'm a little confused.

I find my iPhone 7 Plus quick enough and currently have much storage space left so that isn't an issue for me.

On comparing mine with the standard 11, I see this.

iPhone 11 -
4000 x 3000 Pixels
828 x 1792 pixels
324 ppi

iPhone 7 Plus -
4608 x 2592 Pixels
Full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels)
401 ppi

So buying this would give me a thinner screen with less quality?

Confused!

I'd appreciate some advice.

The 11 does have lower resolution than the 7+ (or 8+).

If you're still on the fence, I'd actually look at both screens in person if you can.

Many people are happy with the XR/11 resolution.

So only you can answer if the 11 is right for you.

Me personally? I need the best screen for my vision, so I am sticking with an 8+. Am hoping next year's model will ditch the notch, and be higher resolution closer to the 7+/8+. Don't need OLED.

Spot on.

As you're based in the UK, is there any chance you could purchase the iPhone 11, and use it for a week to 10 days, and then decide? If you don't like or think it's worth the upgrade, you can return the phone back to Apple and get your money back (Apple have a 14 day return policy).

See the return policy for more details: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/help/returns_refund

You’ll need to decide for yourself. This is why I still own my 8+. The difference between 326 dpi and 401 is noticeable despite what others say. Many state that after a few weeks they no longer notice the difference. Many have been unable to adjust and either go back, or are forced to go with the more expensive device. Only you can decide. You have 14 days to return it. That should be long enough IMO. It’s a tough situation we find ourselves in. I do think the colors and contrast are nicer on the XR/11 are nicer than my 8+. It’s just not a crisp.

Good luck. :apple:

My all time favorite iPhone was the 7+ in jet black. I sold it and bought an iPhone X, which I don't love. The iPhone 11 should fix all my issues with the iPhone X IF I can live with the LCD screen [The iPhone 11 screen resolution is the same as an iPhone 7 or iPhone 8]. If I can't live with the 11 screen, I will return it and buy a new iPhone 8+ and wait to see what Apple sells next year in the iPhone 12 series. Ironic that I disliked the most expensive iPhone X I have owned; 4s, 5, 5s, 6+, 6s+ and 7+.

I’m in the same position as you, I have a 7 plus and keep changing my mind between the 11 or the 11 pro or just waiting until next year.

My iPhone 7 Plus is solid and works perfectly, it’s just after 3 years it’s nice to have something newer.

I think I’m going to wait a couple of weeks for reviews to come out and then maybe order one of the new phones on a buy now pay within 12 months deal.

For anyone on the fence, simple, wait until you can see it, touch it, try it in store before making your decision. Honestly, it does make a difference. I usually like to see for myself if the upgrade is worth it to me before I jump in. I check out reviews, but take them with a grain of salt because in the he end I am the one who needs to be happy.

My wife and I were having the same dilemma. My son has an XR so I compared the screens next to each other in various apps for a while and finally decided, for me, I could live with the screen. I do like the 7 plus screen though. To get basically the equivalent size (but also OLED goodness) you have to go to the pro max, but it wasn’t worth the cost to me.

Checked out an XR today (in prep for the 11) and compared it to my 7+ (P) Red:
-could not notice different pixel density
-similar/bigger screen size, but much smaller phone
-next to the XR, my 7+ looks like it came from the 80’s
-the XR red is waaaay deeper, in my eyes much prettier (Will have to see the 11 though)

Only downside in my mind is a glass back, but I’m already kinda convinced nevertheless - also ‘cos glass back = wireless charging :). Will do a final comparison with the 11 and make a final decision, but I think 11 is > 7+.

Im off work today taking my girlfriend to a job interview and two minutes away is an Apple store so going to have a look at the XR against the XS display wise to help me make
A decision between the 11 and the 11 pro

Just had a look in the Apple store at the XR against my iPhone 7 Plus and also against the Max. The screen looks fantastic and I think i think I'm set on saving myself £510 (difference in price between the 128gb 11 and 256gb pro max which were my two options) and ordering an 11 and then maybe trading it in and upgrading next year to the new “design” if it happens or the year after when the first “S” version of the new design is released and all of the bugs have been sorted.

Thanks for the feedback folks.

I think I need to see an XR and compare or do the 14 day thing as mentioned.

I must admit too that I’m a bit of a fan of the home button still, so that would be another issue for me to ‘upgrade’.

Definitely go and check the XR out in person, you can’t honestly really tell the difference. Yes sometimes the blacks on the OLED are darker but I mean who cares? Your saving hundreds.

I was caught between the two and after checking out the XR I’m set on the 11.

I'm in the same boat as I'm still driving my 7 plus. I replaced the battery earlier in the year on the 7 plus after returning an XS Max. The speakers are a little crackly and the wifi keeps freezing up so I have to switch airplane mode constantly to get a fresh connection. Because I use my phone for everything when I'm away from my desktop the battery doesn't get me through the day. The oleophobic coating has worn alot as well. Either way I fancy a new device with a larger, brighter display even without the above "wear and tear" and can afford it.

Pre ordered the Pro Max 256gb but also an 11 128gb because I'd like to see the difference first hand and also because PWM was an issue on the X and also XS Max (not as bad) for me. If the Pro Max has no PWM issue for my eyes and blows me away then it's a keeper. Otherwise will stick with the 11 and anticipate upgrading next year. It really is a huge price difference between the two which might end up swinging it if the experience is virtually the same which I'm almost certain it will be because of iOS13. But happy to pay the extra for the premium edge the Pro Max brings if its justified and if no issues (PWM, quality control).

I have a 7 and I'm getting a 11. I looked at the XR and I couldn't tell the difference.
The 7, like the XR, is a lower resolution than the 7 Plus. But the colours and brightness are better on the XR and should be the same on the 11.

Yeah I had my battery replaced In January by Apple, still at 100% now! My speakers are a little crackly too. Yeah it’s frustrating really, the 11 has pretty much all the features of the pro just that screen and the additional camera, that’s where they get you. But after physically seeing the XR in person against the XS and against my 7 plus, the 11 seems the best upgrade. Would have to fork out a further £500 for the pro (as I would want the max and not the smaller size) where now I can save that money this year and put it towards a model next year or the year after and still have the new 11 to keep me going !
