Thanks. As I mentioned above, I have had them fitted at an Apple store and the same thing happen.

They always apply fine. I don’t think application is the issue.

Odd phenomenon.

Mine is still perfect from 18 months ago. Might have something to do with the matte finish I go for.

If you're not able to solve the problem, maybe you could try a screen protector that has a black rim. They were originally designed for phones that have a rounded edge. Since the glass can't bend to provide edge-to-edge coverage on those, the black rim hides where the screen protector lifts due to it not sticking on the curved edges.

They're really not needed for completely flat displays like on the 12 or 13, but they do still make them. So if the edges do lift, it shouldn't be as noticeable, if at all.

Something like this one...

Thanks very much for the suggestion. Sadly the black rimmed ones were the first I tried as I’d been using them on my iPhone 11.

They don’t lift so little that it would be confined to that strip around the edge though so its just as noticeable.

I just wish I could figure out what the hell was causing it.

I have not had this issue. I use the ESR Tempered glass one on my iPhone 12 Pro. I use the same one for my daughters 12 and she hasn’t had the issue either.

I can't recall the brand of the screen protector used on my 12 Pro Max, but it has held up since day 1 I put it on (which was 6th Dec 2020). I'm currently using Spigen's GLAStR Align Master on my 13 Pro Max, although it has cracked since I put it on last November, it is still working fine so I never bothered changing it. No lifting issues whatsoever.

I used to use Anker tempered glass screen protectors. Never had a problem with the edges popping up but out of all the iPhones I've seen out and about - a lot of them have edges coming off the screen (you can tell by the way they look).

I now use iCarez Matte screen protectors on my iPhone - and have for years. They last a long longer and look a lot better than the glass ones. Never had a problem with the edge popping up on those either.

So is there anyone that DOES use a screen protector that wants to contribute..?
Welcome to MacRumors, where the people that don’t have a problem with their stuff are always the first and loudest.

Anyway, may that be because you ever so slightly bend your phones in your pocket? I really can’t think of anything but that but even that seems far fetched.

EDIT: If you don’t use a screen protector, you probably can’t answer this…

I’m having a weird issue with tempered glass screen protectors on my IPhones.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max had the issue and now my 13 Pro Max is the same.

The screen protectors apply perfectly but only seem to stay put for around a week or two before they slowly start to lift.

I’ve tried more expensive ones and cheaper ones. They all lift.

The puzzling thing is my partner now has my 12 and never gets this issue even though the phone spends more time in their pocket and bag than mine ever did.

Anyone else having this issue?

I can’t figure out what the hell I’m doing to make this happen. Is it because I use mine more and it gets hotter potentially..?

Would be REALLY great for some opinions from people that actually use screen protectors.
Can you take a photo of your phone with the lifting screen protector. It might give others a clue that you might have missed.

Things that can causing lifting:

old screen protectors (their adhesive is more dry)

the cleaning solution that you used on the screen before you apply the screen protector.

Your phone Case,, even with the same case, just applying they same screen protector just a bit up , down , left . right, can cause it to to rub again the case edge. Try a different case or re apply it it just a bit up,down, left, right so it will not touch the edge of the case even if you grib the phone.

high humidity

higher Heat

I have exactly the same problem. I was just searching google to see if anyone else had the same experience and your thread popped up. I’m currently using a 12 pro but this also used to happen on my x. I’ve used cheap to really expensive tempered glass protectors and all lift in the top left corner. Would love to know why it’s driving me crazy

Same here. Can’t figure it out.

The only thing I’ve wondered is if it’s using the phone too much..! My phone does get very warm at times and I was wondering if the heat is causing it to lift.

My last phone had the same issue but I passed it on to my other half and it’s been fine since it left my hands!

You mention that you work in a kitchen. Could it be the extreme heat and humidity that affects the screen protectors? And your partner maybe not working in a kitchen doesn't expose the iPhone to those environmental conditions?

I also use my iPhone a lot and it gets very warm, but I never had a screen protector do that on me.

That is a thought but it’s not a particularly extreme kitchen. And my partner has the phone in a pocket, bag, car so it gets a lot more use in that respect.

Also, I’ve been off work for the last couple of weeks and out a new protector on at the start of the break and within a week it was lifting off again. ??‍♂️

My phone is used a lot to but surly it would lift from all the corners if heat was causing it? Mine is always the top left only

Good point. Mine is always the right hand side. Usually top right. Why not the bottom half of the phone when that is being used more. ??‍♂️

This is why I don't use Tempered glass for a long time, I always use the film screen protector which sticks well to the screen and doesn't peel off easily. A back case covering the screen edges protects it from cracks and a film protector for scratch protection. I use Gadgetshieldz screen guard and Spigen Tough Armor case!

I’ve been using tempered glass screen protectors on my iPhones, since they debuted and never had an issue with them lifting. I have more of an issue with dropping my phone and the screen protector getting cracks or shattering. I’ve also used many brands over the years and prefer the black edge ones.

I’m getting the same thing lately. It’s occurring right above the power button area. First tempered glass lasted 6 months before lifting from there and now the second one after just two weeks same place.

YES. I have had 6 screen protectors replaced since April. 4 with ATT and 2 with apple. I have been to the Genius Bar 3 times and have been told there isn’t anything wrong with my phone. I fully believe they know they have an issue.

I’m having a weird issue with tempered glass screen protectors on my IPhones.

I have used Belkin UltraGlass Screen Protectors over multiple model years with no problem.

I generally purchase screen protectors from the Apple store and allow them to apply it using their device.

As have I except for my 13 Pro Max they refused to do it for some reason.

Finally some one who has the same problem as me. I have had this issue on both my iPhone X and now my iPhone 12 pro max. I wondered if it is down to my constant use of wireless chargers. but find that my screen protector lifts even when not using them within 1 week to 10 days. I have tried Apple fitting the screen protector , this lasts approx. 3 weeks so is far better and I have used the cheapest and many expensive tempered glass protectors but all tend to start lifting on the top left hand side on both phones within 2 weeks.

I also pass my phone to my wife when I change it and she does not suffer with the same problems. The only thing that I can think of is that it may be linked to the fact that I vape. Maybe the vape juices get under the edge but seems very odd that it always is top of the phone rather than anywhere else and surely if it was because of this lots more people would be having the problem.

I have had multiple cases both Apple and aftermarket, none of these seem to make a difference either.

No answers I am afraid but at least someone else who has a very similar problem. If you have found any answers please do update the post.

Thanks

Using the Torras screen protector since day one on the iP12PM, and i never had a problem with it on my X,11,12.
This year it was even under salt water, and during the corona high it took plenty of disinfection fluids.

I've used Belkin Invisa/Ultra glass on all of my iPhones with no problems. I use wireless charging.

Anything unusual in your environment such as chemical exposures?
