I went on Apple‘s website to compare the 12 and 12 pro, the only big difference seem to be the cameras so I ordered the 12. Now after watching some lew later and an article on here it looks like the 12 pro has 6 GB of RAM versus 4 GB of RAM. I’m kicking myself for not seeing that before pre-ordering. Is that 6 GB of RAM going to be noticeably different than the 4 GB? I really wish Apple would have presented this info.
No.
The additional 2 GB of RAM is specifically for recording Dolby Vision at 60 FPS vs. 30 FPS of the 12, and Apple ProRAW.

4GB RAM has been an issue with me on Iphone 11 pro max as I don't close apps. I had apps reloading when I switch apps, and when I get back to my email app, I had to re-type. It is a an annoyance that I don't want to see. 6GB RAM would be a nice change. If you close apps fully, it may not bother you.
I think that is more likely just iOSs aggressive memory management and not something that would be different if the device had more ram. We’ll see when the new pros get out in the wild.

I don’t think Apple really needs the extra RAM for proRAW. That’s just a feature lockout to keep something for the “pro” model.

Apple is pitching this as a big deal, but I suspect all they did was write their own raw format and the software to let end users manipulate it. It’s not generating any data that the regular 12 doesn’t, it just gives users the option to save that data before converting to 8 bit and HEIC compression.

If you ain't picky, it should be great on 4GB RAM. In my experience 2GB RAM kept me going with my (now retired) 6s for many years.

YMMV

Depends on what you do. It's more of an annoyance, like apps and website reloading more frequently.

The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 pro Max have both 4GB of ram and it was never an issue. Stop it man don’t get caught up in that. I’m primarily an android user and that’s the only time I worry about Ram. 4 is plenty enough in iOS

Won't be a concern. Ipad pro 2017 and 2018 have 4gb of ram and pushing way more pixels than any iPhone, and can push 3 programs at once with 120hz with ease.

The ram is more for the camera systems, not for ios itself

I think you should take your own advice. iOS has become more bloated and RAM hungry over the years. Apple wouldn’t give you more RAM out of the goodness of their heart especially under Tim Cook who likes to nickel and dime you. I have first gen 12.9”, 10.5”, and iPhone 11 and they can all use more than 4 GB. It may not be necessary, but much nicer to have 6 GB like my new 11” version.

Well of course more ram is welcomed lol but 4 is just fine.

well the tough part here is I am a new Verizon customer switching from AT&T so this new phone that I ordered will have my ported AT&T number, so when it arrives I’m gonna have to figure out how to swap it out with Verizon and have them port my already ported number to the pro, also, update my monthly plan and also take my trade-in and apply it all. That’s why am reluctant and hoping the 6 GB isn’t worth the hassle 😑 I called Verizon explaining this to them and they were having trouble figuring out exactly how to do it all and said to just call back when the phone comes in, but I also have a 14 day window to trade in my old phone to get credit which makes it time sensitive
The ported number will be linked to your sim card.
You order a 12 pro and return the 12. put the sim card in 12 pro. walla

Of course it’s fine, it’s just nicer to have more. I don’t have to suffer through unnecessary app/website refresh with more RAM. Maybe part of that is iOS not being well optimized, but nevertheless nicer to have more.

That’s why you get the choice of iPhone 12 or 12 pro.

I wouldn’t worry. iPhones with 2 GB of RAM (6s, 7 and 8) are still running great on iOS 14. The 6s is on it’s 6th version of iOS. They included the extra ram on the Pros mostly for the extra camera features, and sure it will likely help with multitasking a little, but I don’t think you’ll notice a difference in performance between the two.

RAM matters the least on iPhones of all devices. You'll notice more RAM on a Mac, you'll notice more on an Android phone because of the poor optimisation and you may even notice it on an iPad but you're very unlikely to notice the difference on an iPhone. The phone will be long replaced before it ever even becomes an issue. The latest iOS runs on iPhone 6s models with 2GB of RAM and if people have any issues it's not likely to be the RAM. I suppose if you plan on keeping the phone for 6 years or more it would be worth considering, but even then it's likely something else would be the issue before RAM is the issue.

I agree. My iPhone 6 is struggling with only 1gb of RAM, but keep in mind that's like 6 years ago! :)
4gb on an iPhone 12 should be good for at least 4-6 years.

Well then you don't understand how its accomplished or what is involved. There is a tremendous amount of data being calculated and stored on the fly.

Before the reports came out I assumed the Pros would have more RAM, they are "Pros" after all. If it makes you feel better a YouTube did a battery stress test and it seems the nonpro 12 gets slightly better battery life.
