Biggest development in iPhone in 10 years is turned off in 10 seconds. So much for progress

Why don't give people just the choice? I live in an area where is have 90% 5G coverage. But I won't use it. I don't need it for my daily stuff, therefore for me this is a nice thing.

I have been reading in reviews that the battery life on the iPhone 12 suffers when using 5G. The good news is that there is a setting to force 4G to be used all the time. Also, there is an option that will only use 5G is it does not adversely affect the battery. Don't like 5G then disable its use.

This will be an important Setting for the next 3-4years of smartphones lol. Considering how slowly 5G is being deployed globally, 4G LTE is still going be very important.

Yes, you are lucky to be in an urban area with 5G saturation, but think of the 90% of the country that does not have 5G yet as the US is mostly rural.....

I don't find myself needing 5G for most of what I use the phone for so I'd rather have the longer battery life with 4G/LTE.

Agreed - in the meantime let's enjoy the faster 4G experience with new modem hardware!

And LTE in the iPhone 12 appears to be twice as fast as the LTE in the iPhone 11.
Right, LTE has gotten faster year by year. If you’re on a smoking 4G connection, that’s all 99% of the public needs. LTE won’t be the ignored stepchild the way 3G was. There was a huge leap between 3G > 4G.

As the years go on this will be less and less of an issue. I don’t think I’ll leave 5G enabled permanently until I get a completely new iPhone in a few years. Newer phones will be more efficient in handling 5G, and the 5G networks will be beefed out. For the foreseeable future, I envision I'll only use 5G in specific case scenarios and let LTE handle the rest.

How do I turn this toggle on? My only options are 3G and 4G

Same here, I don’t see anything about 5G in the Settings
Voice & Data settings is where it should be, usually this is something that would be enabled by your network and would possibly need a carrier update.

That’s what I’m wondering after researching it more. I have to go to the AT&T store anyway so I’m going to see if they know. Although someone at the store likely has no clue

Indeed, I've since come to realize that's the case. Which is odd, as it wasn't with the iPhone 5 during the introduction of 4G networks, I always had the toggle way before networks were available. I think this should have been the case again. This way I'm unlikely to be able to test the network as I did back in the days.
