I haven't seen a 12 in person so can't confirm but in the videos I've seen, there seems to be a slight shadow at the screen borders in the iPhone 12 models. Seems only noticeable when the light hits at the right angle.

I found this picture on Reddit which just barely shows what I mean. You may have to zoom in a little. Look at the left "ears" on each iPhone.
On the 12 Pro Max, there appears to be a gap between the glass and the display underneath, perhaps due to the flat design and smaller bezels.
The iPhone X, XS and 11 Pro models have displays that look flush with the glass.

I know most people won't notice such small thing though. Maybe I am seeing things.

Looks like the iPhone 13 series suffers from the same ugly gap between the glass and the display given it’s the same design as last year’s.

You’re referring to the “bezel”. I’ve never been bothered by it in phones, but agree, it seems like a step back compared to the X, XS, and 11 Pros.
