One poster has been complaining, in multiple threads, that iPhone Upgrade Plan members are being cheated because the iPhone 12 is arriving late.

Let me explain why this is not true.

If you are on the Upgrade plan, you will make 12 payments in 2020. Assuming that the new phone you select is the same price as your old phone, your payments will not go up or down. You will make the same number of payments and pay the same amount of money in 2020, regardless of when you receive your new phone.

If the 2020 iPhone arrives one month late, that means you will make 13 payments on your 2019 phone, instead of 12. But it also means that you will make just 11 payments on your 2019 phone, instead of 12 (assuming the 2021 phones are not delayed). This is what financiers call a “wash”.

Bottom line: It really doesn’t matter, financially, whether the new phones arrive early or late. You will pay the same amount of money, unless you choose a cheaper or more expensive model as your annual upgrade. The only thing you’re really losing is the opportunity to use the new phone features in September. You aren’t losing $$$.

Thats not how it works. You have to make 12 payments before you can upgrade. So if the iPhone 12 Pro comes out in Nov, I will have made 14 payments on my 11. Thats doesn't mean I will only be making 10 payments on my 12. I will still have to make 12 payments (thru Nov 2021) and I will be screwed if the next iPhone is out Sept 2021, I won't be able to upgrade until Nov. So now Im thrown off by two months all because Apple was late with the 12. Thats the problem.

Correct! This is the real reason people are complaining about this.

This first really happened with the ipx. The wait was long and some had 2 months extra. Unfortunately it’s one of the risk on the plan. You can still sell it on your own and pay off the financing.

Did this not happen with the iPhone X? I believe Apple allow people to upgrade to the iPhone XS when it was release.

Yeah it did happen with iPhone X as well but I’ve not heard of what happened next year since I started my IUP plan from 8 plus and never had to deal with this situation before.

Yeah I thought Apple let people upgrade early, but I could be wrong.
