I used to switch phones religiously every year .. Maybe its the advancing age or perhaps the charm is gone.. But my trusty iPhone X has lasted me 3+ years now.
No issues with the phone per se other than that the camera feels dated now- and the screen a tad bit small.

the iPhone 12 is currently discounted down to 875 USD equivalent in my country ( The launch price was approx 1100 USD equiv)
The iphone X will currently fetch me about 300 effectively making it 575 USD or so .

That price would have been a no brainer but for the looming launch of iPhone 13.
However, it would be fair to assume no discounts at launch as well as a drop in the salvage value of the old phone.

Worth waiting or should I just get the 12?

Your situation depends on the need to upgrade as well as the price you have to pay and how long you typically keep your phones.

At every launch, the new iPhone model will be tempting as trade in offers are quite nice from all sources (Apple.com, T Mobile, Verizon, and ATT) in the USA.

I have taken advantage of those "rebates", "trade in gift cards", etc...

This year, I may just hold off on the 13.

I love my personal 12 Pro and my work XS Max iPhones - I carry both 5 days a week and are perfect so I may skip the 13 this year...

My wife has the 12 Pro Max and loves her and she only upgrades when it becomes slow or battery life degrades.

Will have to see what offers are available for the new iPhone...

oh well, there was no real need to upgrade.. And I historically used to change phones every year . This is probably the first time I held on to a phone for 3+ years so I ended up buying :)

What's probably the interesting aspect is the decision was swung by the fact that the online portal I brought it from had a 90 minute no cost express delivery option ...so the instant gratification combined with a good deal made it too difficult to resist.

eCommerce is surely nipping on the heels of the last USP left with B&M stores.

Incidentally since you are from the US, you may find this factoid interesting that said portal (flipkart) was recently brought by walmart.
