iPhone 12 mini iPhone 12 gets extremely hot

My iphone 12 randomly heats up to an alarming temperature (without entering any app). Both the location services, background app refresh and automatic updates are disabled. Any ideas as to why this happens? I’m running ios 14.7.1

Try a hard restart, and force close apps you’re not using for a while. I’ve noticed occasional heat/batt drain issues from later iOS versions, and sometimes even after force closing apps. Seems some rogue app, or process, is getting stuck looping in the processor or something.
