iPhone 12 Max side button?

[Confused in Montara]

The side button on my 12 Max doesn't seem quite right. When you press on it there is no sense of it being clicked or pressed and no sound--it seems like nothing is happening. It will work for calling up the SOS screen but clicking it alone doesn't put the phone to sleep or call up Siri. I checked the Siri settings and it is green on "Press Side Button for Siri."

Does this sound right?

Definitely doesn’t sound right. Mine works just like my previous iPhones.

Mine has a nice solid feel to it. Maybe yours is faulty?
