I wanted a mini pro for next year before i received my mini.
but now i like 135g so much that i don’t know if i want it to get any heavier.

I don't think i want it to get heavier. The weight difference between the 12 and 12 Pro is very noticeable.

It would be great but given how packed the internals of the mini already are it's impossible to squeeze in a third camera

no third. just two (like the X iPhone) – wide one (~28mm FF) and a tele (~55mm FF) instead of wide and ultra wide... both are almost pointless to me. I use the tele 80% of the time (or more).

And how much of that 80% is the iPhone actually using the wide angle lens because there's not enough light?

I want a Mini than can answer calls and use the lock screen buttons properly; this year please, no next...

Absolutely not. With the 11 Pro the telephoto was my least used lens and the one that always produced the worst shots. I would absolutely accept a little more weight to get a proper three camera system in a Mini Pro, but you can pry the ultra wide from my cold, dead hands.

with the native camera app (that i'm using) – 0 (zero)
Are you sure about that? The native camera app automatically switches to the wide angle camera at 2x digital zoom when there’s not enough light for the telephoto, and it doesn’t tell you that’s what’s happening.

It does that in Night Mode. Is that what you mean by “not enough light”?

And even so, most photogs I know would still choose a 52mm lens that only works in good light over an ultrawide gimmick lens.

Not just night mode, but any time the phone determines that the telephoto isn’t going to get enough light for a good exposure. It literally does not the you when it’s doing it.

As for the ultra wide, it may be a gimmick to you but I use it all the time for what I consider to be very cool shots I couldn’t otherwise get.

If you're talking about the native iPhone camera app, you'd be surprised at how many times it's just using the wide angle lens and cropping the picture. Play around with it in less than stellar lighting conditions. Set up your shot and then put your finger over the telephoto lens. That will tell you if it's using it or not.

I’ve been using a 12 Pro for a few days now. I think I’m gonna keep it—the stuff it does that a Mini can’t is worth it to me, and I’m slowly getting used to this form factor...

But THE WEIGHT IS REAL. I was among those who were bummed the Mini didn’t get a Pro option, but after handling this steel slab it’s pretty evident there are major technological hurdles to clear before this camera module could be made to fit the Mini’s chassis. This phone feels impossibly dense and a bit top-heavy, and there’s no way that’s just the fault of the stainless steel frame.

Anything’s possible, but I’d be really surprised if we see the “Mini Pro” we all want anytime soon...

I’m in a room with the curtains drawn and it’s still shooting the Tele. 🤷‍♂️

I’m not sure where Apple have set the cut off for available light before switching to the Wide lens, but if the Tele is still being used for dim interior daytime shots, that’s plenty for my purposes.

I was saying the same before switching to mini from iPhone 12 Pro, and then iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I know it might not be a popular opinion, but I like the feel of the mini aluminum edges more than iPhone 12 Pro's (Max) stainless still, and the difference in weight is also making a lot different (positively), and telephoto lens?

Well, if it was there in the mini, of course it would be cool (I don't think it will change the weight dramatically), BUT, in a dream world, I would love for Apple to put there a MASSIVELY improved Wide (normal) lens instead of both telephoto and ultra wide. And I mean even more improved than Pro Max. Make Wide so good, so even if you zoom 2.5X, it still provides sharper images than Telephoto lens does now.
