I will upgrade to iPhone 12 since I have holding up to my 7+. So it’s a good time to upgrade and enjoy a massive leap in performance.

Problem is, I need to have at least 128GB of storage since I do keep most of my photos and musics in the phone.

Given the price, which would you pick? The new iPhone 12 128GB, or base iPhone 12 Pro which also has 128GB?

For me it’s kinda odd and tough choice given how close they really cost, and share many identical core features. So vote up and help me decide LOL. Thanks in advance.

The 12 is a real alternative, the 12 Pro almost only has a better camera. So if the price is a reason, I'd go for the 12.

I am set on a 12 for size but not certain if I want the Pro model. Will probably end up getting it for the Lidar scanner and stainless steel pacific blue. Don't really care for the telephoto camera as much.

It has better camera than 12 but, sadly not the best..that's only in Pro Max and thats way too expensive.
So I guess iPhone 12 is the phone I'll be getting.

That the camera is not as good as the one in the Max is also turning me off. They can only entice me to buy it with such a high price, if it is the best. But the Max takes that away ;) i know it's stupid, but that's just how i roll.

And then i compare the 12 and 12 Mini and realize that apart from the size they are the same... and i really loved the size of the iPhone 7... which is how i ended up wanting the Mini.

Last year was easier. The price disparity is huge enough to justify the 11 over 11 Pro. The 11 had a slightly bigger display (albeit only LCD) at $699 making the 64GB 11 Pro at $999 seemed like a hard sell.

Now Apple plays a smart game. I feel it’s a bit complicated and dangerously closr. I do feel that there is much less incentive of buying a mid-tier iPhone 12 storage now the baseline 12 Pro is bumped up to 128GB.

Which would you pick, personally?

Check your current storage use under Settings / About. 128GB is already quite a lot and may suffice.

Id pick the 12, it weights a lot less than the 12 pro and the main differences are the 2 gb extra of ram (supposedly), and the telephoto.

Good argument. The choice for 128GB option is definitely tighter this year, pricing wise. Both 12 and 12 Pro both comes really close.

Apple have pulled off a masterstsroke here, imo. For me, for an additional £150 (2-3 years life so £50-75 per year more is nothing) is insignificant. Well played, Apple.

I agree that the difference is close enough for a lot of people to jump up one tier.

£150 is worth it for me to get slightly better camera, and of course, once you’re there it’s “only” £100 to go up to the Max model. People not massively into photos should probably stick to the regular model.

The Pro should be better at focusing in low light and has the telephoto lens but it is significantly heavier than the 12. Does the steel frame make the Pro any sturdier?? There are marginal differences in the screen and RAM that I don't think I'd notice. Really tricky decision.

Absolutely! I think most people don't realize what a difference the weight makes. I absolutely dislike the weight on all the recent iPhones, so was really happy when they announced that the iPhone 12 was going to be lighter.

Unfortunately, that did not lead to the pros being lighter, they actually gained a few grams.

I had the XS and it felt like a brick, with it's weight and smaller size. The 11 feels better, even though it's heavier as the weight is spread across the big size. I want to go pro this year for the telephoto lens, but that weight (even heavier than the XS) and smaller size is really off-putting! I've also had no durability concerns from my 11 and I don't use a case or screen protector.

That’s true about the extra creep from pro to pro max. However, I’d assume for a of people the size may be a factor. The 12 pro looks perfect to me, same screen but smaller overall than the XR. Size wise 12 and 12 pro are comparing apples with apples, but that changes with pro to pro max.

I’m going from 7+ to 12. I just don’t see the need to spend an extra $150 for another camera lens. 95% of my photos are of my kids and dog. I don’t need super fancy camera options for that.

That will be an incredible upgrade. I did 6 to XR two years ago and it was like 10 years had passed. I think this is the problem as ever since the x they’ve been full screen design which was an incredible upgrade from the huge bezel and home button design. Not sure where the big changes are coming from now.

I ended up deciding on 12 Pro, even though I was highly considering the base 12. Apple was super shady with pricing this year, so unlocked the 128GB 12 is actually $879 vs $999 for the Pro (Only $849 for AT&T & Verizon.)

For me the upgrade really isn't worth $130 personally, but I do want to play around with the LiDAR camera as a developer, so that is why I took the plunge.

The 12 Pro (non-max) was definitely the most gipped phone this year. It's only advantage is the telephoto and the lidar camera, plus the software features Apple is locking to only the Pro models (ProRAW) to try and make them have one more feature checkbox.

It's sad, because I thought Apple had changed ways since the "Plus" lines getting better cameras when the X/XS/11 Pro all getting Max equivalent hardware...but they are back to their old ways now.

Looks like your decision paying off? It's been confirmed that all 12 Pro has 6GB of RAM, instead of 4GB on standard 12 and Minis?

At least you get more than just extra telephoto and LiDAR? Shiny stainless steel frame still bugging me though, I wonder how long it will stay shiny after I unbox it LOL.
