Hello

it happened just the one time. I was using my iPhone while on the mag charger.

The message phone overheating came on with the battery icon. Has anyone else experience this with the iPhone 12 (not Pro).

I have also been reading up on other posts on iPhone 12 overheating and found discussions on iPhone 12 pro but not the iPhone 12.

I have also done the reduce background refresh apps option.

I haven’t experienced the message again but I notice my iPhone getting warm (or warmer). Maybe it’s because I’m focussing on the heat issue.

Does anyone have to share their experiences with heat issues on their iPhone 12?

Magsafe charging is already very warm on its own. Add your phone activities to it then I’m not surprised of the results. Keep doing that and you’ll probably have to replace your battery within a month or two as extreme heat can cause the battery to swell significantly

Yes. It happened when I was using while charging on MagSafe. It doesn’t happen when I use the “conventional” USB in the car.

Has anyone else experienced heating issues and seen the “overheating” message on the iPhone ; and when ?

Compare how hot MagSafe charging is against wired USB. That alone should tell you not to use the phone while Magsafe charging as the whole phone is already very warm to the point of being uncomfortable to fingers especially Magsafe charging on a hot summer room temperature

The overheating has NOTHING to do with the MagSafe charger. It is the phone. It overheats with certain apps, It overheats with basically in qi charger, and it overheats plugged into a rapid charger via Lightning too.

Apple needs to update the OS...to fix this.

I haven’t used the iPhone on the MagSafe since the “overheat”
Message. I do not think it’s wise to try to reproduce the condition.

But I have used the phone with the cable and in the car. No overheating issue in those instances.

MagSafe heats up the phone and itself a bit more than 7.5W Qi chargers due to fast charging and without any means to dissipate heat by active cooling. Other 3rd party fast chargers (obviously for Samsung and other Android phones) have built-in fans in the charger to keep the phone and charger cool throughout. Unless Apple silently implemented 2-5W throttled Magsafe charging when it detects that the phone is being used or if the phone is getting excessively hot from the standard 15W charging rate

Honestly, I have not noticed any overheating in my 12 using any app, nor wired or wireless charging with anything EXCEPT a MagSafe charger. The one time I used the MagSafe I did not use the phone but it got alarmingly hot. I ended up returning the MagSafe.

Return that overpriced piece of crap MagSafe charger and buy a apple 20W fast charger instead.

I went back to my Samsung wireless charger. It works fine.

Apple needs a Magsafe 2 with a dang fan built-in to cool the coils so that the phone and magsafe don't get alarmingly hot. Can't see using Magsafe during the summer heat unless I charge it with my USB fan blowing directly to it

This is another reason why i bought the pro max.
The phone’s bigger size helps it dissipate heat much better. My pro max never gets hot.
