Hi, just wondering if anyone else has had any similar experiences to this.

I unplugged my 12 Pro from MagSafe this morning, it had been charging all night, and it completely crashed. Black screen, all buttons unresponsive, and the only way to boot it was with a force restart (vol up/down/hold power). After, even though the phone was fully charged, it said my battery was nearly dead at 10%. I had no idea what was going on so I plugged it in again, and it said it charged a few more percentage points, but it just didn't make sense since I was sure it was full. So, I unplugged it, rebooted again, and miraculously the phone was back to 100% battery charge.

What would cause the phone to so severely misreport the battery charge level? Could I have damaged the battery by charging it when it thought it was low but it actually wasn't? And has anyone else had this happen, when the phone was completely bricked until a force reset?

Battery has a smart charger built in so it's tough to damage it.

Symptoms appear to make it a hardware issue.

I'd get a replacement under Apple warranty.

i think im staying away from magsafe for awhile even though i bought one. Seems to be a bit 'iffy', like over heating, leaving marks on cases, and now possibly this.

I don’t get the attraction to wireless charging. It’s no faster and less efficient than wired charging. You also must make additional purchases of equipment. I’ll only use it when the charge port is eliminated some day.

What I really don't get is why they made the Magsafe puck so magnetic - it would drive me crazy as I grab and go.

Who wants 2 hands to separate the phone from the charging puck ?

I'd probably rip the cable to shreds by the way I use my phone.

Therefore I love my dual Qi wireless charging mat that is soft and pillowy.

When I wake up every morning, I reach over to grab the phone and turn the alarm off so having it on a mat makes sense for me. I would not want a cable dangling that would rip from the charger...

Did you lose any of the data?

No, everything is working fine now, no data loss that I can see. But I am on chat with Apple Support and they are saying it could be a hardware defect and they're recommending replacement. Makes sense to me, I don't want to screw around with potentially defective charging circuits.

It aligns so easily, I've found aligning so difficult...like I just wanna throw it down.

I've been using wireless chargers for a while, and every once in a long while, I've seen the iPhone not charge. Upon reboot, it works normally. The issue wasn't with the charger; that kinda blew my mind!

I’ve had this happen with just about every iPhone since my first, a 3GS.

With it booting with incorrect battery indicator too?
Yup. Not every every time but it’s happened with that a couple times. Not often. I’m talking like once a year. The first time it happened with my 3GS. I didn’t know anything about it really since it was only my 2nd day with the phone. Went all black. Had 60% battery life remaining. Friend showed me the hard reset. It booted back up and battery said 100%. I reset it again and it went back down to the 60% it was at.

Huh. Don’t remember it on my prior phones but it’s good to hear that someone has dealt with something similar. Could just be a glitch with MagSafe that could actually be resolved in 14.2 as well. Anyone else out there had anything like this?
