I’m debating if the Pro Max makes sense to purchase as primarily a book reading device. Does anyone else read a lot off their device, and is it practical for this purpose?

I do. In an avid reader so any moment I can spend doing it I do whether it’s waiting in the car for something, during breaks, etc. I have always had a Max for that reason to make it easier to read. Last year I went with an iPhone 11 instead of the 11 pro or pro Max and loved it for a bit until I realized I didn’t enjoy reading on it as much. I am very happy to have the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Honestly I went with the pro Max really only for the convenience of reading but the other specs are a bonus. I find I read so much more with the Max phones because my eyes don’t bother me as much and I can do it in between whatever I am doing more often. It’s more portable than my iPad Pro.

Of course what works for me may not work for you. I hate reading on kindles I much prefer my iPad and iPhone Max phones but it’s subjective. You may have to try different products to see what you feel works best for you.

I was interest in this too, would need a folio case though to make it easier to handle like a kindle with the case.
Anyone got both a max and kindle and can post a picture with the text showing?

Yeah i've tried kindles and found the same.

I think it kind of depends on what you mean by “primarily a book reading device”. By that what I am picturing is a device that you literally only use for reading and you would have a separate device that you use as your phone. And in that case, I think there are a lot of better choices out there.

However, if what you mean is that this will be your phone, but you will also be doing a lot of reading on it, then the 12 Pro Max might be a good choice for you.

While I can read around on websites all day long with a Plus iPhone - I really don't like reading an e-book on it for some reason. In fact I despise it so much I refuse to read books on it. Not sure why.

I mainly read on my kindle Oasis but if you prefer reading on your phone, the pro max is excellent for that! However, I wouldn’t buy it *only* for reading.

I love reading off my phone! The bigger the screen, the better! I read off iBooks, mostly as that’s where all my books are and I enjoy having a device that has everything I need and want without having to carry something extra.

I wish iBooks used more of the screen for text.

I too read on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. An iCarez matte screen protector and I get no glare. I prefer to read on my iPad Pro 11 but I always have my phone with me.

I wouldn't go Pro Max solely for reading ebooks, but I read frequently ebooks on my phone (full disclosure: I don't have a 12PM yet, I'm currently using and reading on an XR but if you're wondering if reading on the 12PM would be doable based on the size I think I can still fairly answer since it's even bigger than the XR). While I have an iPad mini and do read on that sometimes as well, I read more on my phone since my phone is always with me. Sometimes when I'm at home I naturally just go for the phone even though the iPad is right there since it's always right near me.

The Samsung galaxy fold 2 is great when it comes to reading anything.

Can you read with two pages view on the iPhone Pro Max? Because I can’t do that on my iPhone 11. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can - turning it horizontally.

Granted.... can't change the margins and it doesn't utilize the full screen of the 12 pro max. Makes me very mad. lol.

SO much wasted space.

This is totally a personal preference issue. I read a lot - hours/day as I'm retired - and far prefer reading books on my 12.9 Pro over my 12 Pro Max or 3rd Gen Kindle Oasis. I rarely read on the the 12PM.

Agreed. Especially with Apple Books throwing away so much of the screen space. Kindle and Libby utilize the full screen of the iPhone 12 Pro Max - making it much nicer...

But nothing beats my iPad Pro 11 when reading for 6 hours straight on a rainy weekend. :) (I have an iCarez matte screen protector on it to make reading with no glare possible).

There isn’t a smartphone or a tablet on the planet that beats a paper white kindle for reading. I certainly wouldn’t invest in a 12 Pro Max as a reading device. Seems massively extravagant when there is a much cheaper and better option out there to me. The battery life on a kindle is also as impressive as it gets.

I tried reading a newspaper and some magazines on the iphone 12 max - just too small for me. I prefer the 12.9 ipad for those

I wouldn’t purchase one JUST for reading as an IPad is just cheaper and larger. But if you want a new daily driver which can also be used as a book reader then I dont see why not.
