I wouldn’t purchase one JUST for reading as an IPad is just cheaper and larger. But if you want a new daily driver which can also be used as a book reader then I dont see why not.
Agreed, it can be done. I've read books on my 6s+, 8+, and Xs Max (when I had to travel for work and didn't want to carry an iPad and work laptop). It's very doable.

I just ... .... I just wish Apple Books would use all the margin space for text like Kindle/Libby. :(. They used to have margin controls in previous iOS versions (if I remember right? - either that or I just read on Kindle). lol.

I’m debating if the Pro Max makes sense to purchase as primarily a book reading device. Does anyone else read a lot off their device, and is it practical for this purpose?
Why on earth would you pay $1200 for a Pro Max to use as a reader when you can get a new Kindle for $95 or a Fire for $150? Lol

I have to agree with the majority and ask why not get a dedicated reader, or even a iPad?
The way I see it is, I'm going to have my phone anyway. So instead of getting yet another device for reading, I'd just use my iPhone cuz ... it's something I have already.

That said, I agree, if you can afford it, iPad is a VAST improvement over the iPhone - same for Kindle. Though, Kindle app on iPhone 12 Pro Max is very doable imo.

Then why bother getting an ipad, iMac or Apple Watch if an iPhone is something you already have? Most iPhone owners own other Apple devices

Well, cuz they're better for their specific tasks. :) That said, not everyone can afford them. I know a lot of people who use an iPhone as a primary computer. Even in a computer science class at college - I saw people trying to take the exams and do homework from their iPhones (web based).

If one can afford a Kindle, iPad, or iMac - definitely a major improvement over an iPhone. I myself have iPad, MacBook Pro, and a Watch. So I hear ya.

It is certainly doable even for this 60 year old with now not the best eyes, but an iPad (or iPad Mini) would be more sensible if reading is its primary use - and a lot less expensive too

I just found something AMAZING out... iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Turn vertical scrolling on - turn phone horizontal. Ding ding ding. Readability is so much better than the squished portrait view!

I still hope that iBooks updates someday to take advantage of the 12 Pro Max screen but till then this is acceptable.

I can read on my phone again! :)

If you want to buy a new device solely for reading and yet keep it handy, get the iPad mini or iPad. If you consume just text based ebooks, kindle paperwhite will be the best.

If you are after an iPhone and want to use it for reading as well, nothing will beat the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I have an iPad which I like to read comics, magazines pdf etc on. But still several times when I don't have it nearby, I fallback to read on my iPhone. It's really a handy reading device which is always with you.

Kindle app has a very nice reading experience on iPhone. For PDF I use Pdf expert and for comics iComics. All apps are on iPad as well.

Lastly again if you care for your eyes eink technology of Kindle paperwhite is best suited for prolonged reading purpose. And you don't need to buy books always, you can sideload ebooks too on Kindle.
