Hi All,

Just got the new phone yesterday and upgrading from XS Max.

I have noticed that the new iPhones camera produces videos that has allot of camera flickering.

This only happens on 1x and not on 0.5x or 2.5x, additionally it doesn't happen with 30 FPS and only 60 FPS or above (really bad in slow mo) .

On my iPhone XS Max at 1080/4k 60 FPS, I don't see this issue.

Is the light in that room LED?

Try a video outside and see if you have the same issue. Wondering if the 1x lens is uber sensitive to LED. I just tested mine however and don't have the issue you do.

It’s not led, its a downlight.

Seems to be fine outside but not inside. Main worry is that XS didn’t have this issue.

It literally says in the product name that it's a LED... It's interplay between the LED light and the shutter speed / frame rate of the camera causing it, I have the same issue when taking videos under some of our operating lights at work both with my GoPro and other cameras. Try it in a room with an incandescent light and I think you'll be fine.

This issue also happens with my iPhone 12 Pro Max under fluorescent lighting.
Most places I video have this type of lighting i.e. warehouse, gym and office. For me it occurs with all settings and doesn't occur using my XS Max.
I logged a job with apple for investigation. They mentioned it might require a future software update to fix it. The technician is contacting me back today so I'll let you know what they say. I suggest you log a job with apple.

Will do. Thanks

Yeah has anyone seen this? I don't get it in video but when I'm in the camera app, it flickers. But when I take a photo you don't see it. But if I take a live photo and see it move, you'll see the flickering light.

No resolution yet, they have tried a lot of things including a full restore. Technician still doesn’t know what it is.
They are going to replace my phone next.
one of the friend had the same issue, not fixed with replacement.
keep us updated :)

I too noticed this flickering on a 12PM at the Apple Store today. However I thought this was simply because of the type of lighting in the store so I did not pay attention to it. I did not take a video. Now after reading this thread I do recall that I did not see this flickering on a 12mini, or 12Pro. Hence this seems to be an issue specifically with the 12PM and need to be investigated further.

Just went to apple store and they will not issue a replacement since all their 12 Pro series had this issue in store.

Since all the phones have it, it’s normal and they can’t do anything about it

I noticed this as well and was wondering if this was happening to anyone else. This has happened to me in my home with regular light bulbs (not fluorescent bulbs or LED lights). I’ve noticed it happens more for me when the room is darker, but it seemed to almost be pulsing when I was viewing in the photos app. I didn’t notice any change when changing from 60fps to 30fps, but that was at 1080p. When I tried taking a video to record the weirdness, it didn’t show up in the video at all

That is an unacceptable response from the Store. There is clearly a defect, and if they cannot give you a properly working unit then they should let you return it for a refund. If possible try another Apple store or call the helpline and speak to them. Ask for a properly working unit, or a refund.

I got the same issue and its very visible inside but it does happen outside as well in some environments, like snow in my example. Which rules out this being caused solely by LEDs.

Yeah I noticed it taking a video in indoors, lit by light coming on from windows. I think it was bad at 4K 60fps so I went for 4K 30 fps. It was really bad trying to do the Dolby vision setting on 4K 30. I deleted that video. I haven’t really tried to test the video as extensively as I usually do.

This is on a 12 mini. I get better indoor still photography results on it than I do my 11 Pro so I haven’t been as vigilant about videos.

iphone 12 pro max here, happened with indoor lights and outloor natural sun light, thought my phone is defected with other yellow screen and flickering issues, but now I think i should just refund it instead of exchange and stay with my X for another year...
I've never had so much issues with my previous iphones. This is my second ip12 mp as well, sigh.

Same here. Outdoors when filming 4K at 60. How can they release something with so many bugs, assuming it’s not hardware issues?

I had this exact issue when recording video at 60 FPS both at 4K and HD. I initially thought it was some lighting issue or an expected behaviour at 60 FPS. Then I compared it with my other iPhone XR with the same settings. I didn’t find any issues on IPhone XR. The flickering was so annoying and distinctly visible especially in indoors against a bright surface like the wall. Also the camera started stuttering and struggling to focus on the default 1x mode.

I spoke with customer service and they asked me to Reset All Settings under Settings -> General -> Reset.

Strangely it resolved the issue after Settings reset.
I’ll check for few more days and if it props up again, then I am going to visit the Service centre for inspection.

I am attaching two videos (before and after the reset). The difference is clearly visible. Please compare the videos during daytime or with proper brightness to notice the difference.

Try this and see if it resolves the issue.
The video with the bag on the right (6 seconds) is the one which was took after the reset.

The other video (4 seconds) is before the reset.

It happens to me to mostly in 4K and even more at 60fps. Less at 30. Does not seems to happen in HD format.
