iphone 12 pro poor camera quality

So my wife has had an ATT iPhone 12 pro for almost a year now and the entire time the camera has taken terrible photos. My iPhone 11 pro max takes way better photos. Hers seems unfocused and washed out. I thought it might have been a software bug when it first came out but here we are almost to the next iPhone release and it's still bad. Is this a known problem? I'm thinking about calling it in today to try and get a warranty replacement.

But if you think they look worse than 11 Pro Max, why thought about a replacement just now? On rare occasions, you can receive a bad unit, so just do it.

She's been dissatisfied with it since she got it. Again, I thought it was software related so I just let it ride and then life happened and today was the first day of school so she was reminded of the poor quality of the camera. I feel like she did get a bad unit. Let me try and post some examples.

This one for example was taken this morning around 7:45 AM. Looks cloudy, almost like it has an Instagram filter on it. Lacks a bit of sharpness.

Look at the lens and wipe it off from oil/fingerprints. It happens too often than realized.
Other than that:
- Try enabling/disabling smartHDR from the settings to see if it makes a difference.
- Try to use the main wide lens (1x) for everything. It has the best sensor. Limit your use of the telephoto 2x unless required.
- Use high efficiency format.
