I've been using Apple's silicone cases for years. I've always considered them to be high quality and durable. Up until now. There are a couple of issues, which bother me quite and I cannot see why Apple changed this. They are not a big deal, but in my opinion show lack of attention to details, which is supposed to be Apple's hallmark.

1. The inside lining doesn't go all the way to the top of the edges, but stops well before. On older models only the topmost lip of the case was only silicone. Of course this is irrelevant, but in these new cases you can already see the lining is detaching slightly. Definitely doesn't look as durable as before.

2. No lining on the bottom.

3. There is thin frame around the camera hole, which causes the phone in case to wobble on the table. I mean camera bump is bad enough, now we get a case bump?! Before, in all the silicone cases phone was sitting flush on the table.

Returned my Navy, too heavy anyway and a lint magnet. I didn't notice what is in your photos though.

At first, I really liked the silicone case. I like the smoothness and look. But after only 4 days, the top-left corner (where I never touch) is already peeling!

What's a better MagSafe case in "black, or very, very dark gray"?

Disappointing to see on cases that are rather expensive to begin with.

I think there are nicer looking cases available though. From the pics on here the Apple cases look rather boring to me.

I think the cameras this year are just too big, to avoid them hitting your table every time, I do think it's better to have a slight bump than to have a thicker case.

I'm pretty sure she dropped it onto concrete. These things just don't "chip" on their own.
Except they do. Apple has an entire internal document however where they have dozens of pictures that their Geniuses can use to compare damages and determine whether the case is defective or if it was accidental damage. Spoiler alert though: 9 times out of 10, even if you are certain that the case is defective because you haven’t dropped it, they are really strict and won’t replace it. It sucks but it is what it is

I’ve had an Apple silicone case on my 12PM since launch day and although I’ve noticed discoloration around the edges, no chipping yet but this doesn’t sound promising. I love the fit and feel of the silicone case but wearing down to the plastic is unacceptable for what you pay for this case. Why doesn’t Apple just cut the crap and offer a full protection TPU case? First it was Magsafe discoloration and now this, quality of accessories has gone downhill recently. WTF Apple.

This is very disappointing, I opted for these cases after years of defender cases, and for the price it should be more durable. But I gotta say, my Plum silicone case still looks good.

Have had a silicone case for a while now, no additional complaints besides the already mentioned ones in the first post.

I also think that chipping this fast was most probably because of some damage. Silicone on the outside looks and feels the same as always. I've had these cases since iPhone 6 now and occasionaly they do start chipping after a year or so of abuse.

i just returned my navy blue mini silicon case this morning...based on this thread and that i couldnt get over how much it costs. i dont plan on jumping into the magsafe ecosystem so otherwise i dont see a need for that case.

Here's my almost new iPhone 12 silicone case. I love the feel and look of it, but it is NOT durable. This goes in an out of my pocket and onto my car magnetic holder. It hasn't been dropped on concrete (as one ignorant commenter suggested regarding another post) but has seen regular, normal use. It's a quality problem pure and simple. Now I'm out $50.

Any reason you can't exchange it? I'm pretty sure Apple's warranty for accessories is a year.

I've been using the Apple silicone cases for years and I had exactly one of them do that peeling thing after a few months of use. I brought it back to the store and they handed me a new one on the spot. It's rare, but it does happen.

I can certainly try. I'm not sure there are any Apple stores open in my area due to COVID. I purchased the case at an AT&T store.
Yeah my local store has been closed for a while. I'm pretty sure if you chat up support they'll work out shipping for a replacement.

I find the Leather cases better. Silicone is trash. This years has better buttons but still leather is better if you’re going first party.

If I am not mistaken, you can return it to Apple for an exchange or your money back. It comes with a warranty. At least give it a shot.

Do you find that sanitizing the leather with clorox wipes dries it out?

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I'll have to do it online with them. Originally I thought I purchased it at the AT&T store, but I actually ordered it from Amazon. I may be able to return it to Amazon.
