The situation in Los Angeles is the same here in Seattle/Tacoma; chips and all asundried imported tech merchandise are sitting idly in ports, at least on the West coast, awaiting trucks to deliver them inland. There’s neither a shortage of chips, nor ships; just trucks and drivers.

There is defintely a world-wide shortage of chips that's not just impacting the US. I'm waiting on a new Audi that is manufactured in Germany (so nothing to do with trucks not available on the west coast), and some of the standard features have been removed because they just can't get the chips to run them.

If I had to guess the chip shortage, I think all the phone makers made too many phones in 2019 and 2020.

But then no one bought the phones probably because they were waiting for “The Next Big Thing”.

Which turned out to be iPhone 11 in 2019.

Kudos to Adobe for putting Premiere on Android:

If you have an iPhone 7 32GB, running iOS 15, and you want iPhone 13 then be patient. Stop complaining.

If you have an iPhone 7 32GB, running iOS 15, and you want iPhone 12, go buy it right now.

Apple made the iPhone 12 for you, the person with a 2016 phone (it’s almost 2022).

If you don’t buy iPhone 12, by the time it gets to clearance, it will be 2028.

Which is you right now with a 2016 phone. So you are that person…

My best attempt at Logic on Chip Shortage

You have an iPhone 6s - 2014

2021 - 2014 = 7 years old

Apple has a lot of iPhone 11 - 2019

2021 - 2019 = 2 years old

You want to let the iPhone 11 sit in a factory until it’s on clearance (2026)

2026 - 2019 = 7 years old

I don’t really understand how that helps the world to wait and not buy a new phone to give people 7 year old phones when you right now have a 7 year old phone to give them?

iPhone 6s 2021 = iPhone 11 2026

7 year old phone = 7 year old phone

Should make analysts happy but I doubt any iPhone user was switching to Android due to a few additional weeks of waiting.
Im switching from Android to iPhone. I bought my wife a 13 Product (Red) 128GB, which was delivered within about a week, through Amazon. I also ordered a 13 Pro 256GB in blue, that should arrive by the end of November or,the beginning of December.

There was a good article about the truckers shortage and it pointed out that many are failing the random drug screen mandated by the federal government. It also pointed to the states that legalized marijuana and how THC stays in your system so long. It's a flawed testing system.

I want to gift an iPhone to a family member, but hesitate purchasing it right now due to the darn AppleCare+ activating at purchase. When I give this for Christmas, the person loses over a month of coverage. Does Apple ever flex on this issue? TIA for opinions.

The availability of the iPhone 13 is expected to improve in the coming weeks as the holiday season approaches, possibly easing concerns from analysts and customers that product availability would have remained exceptionally tight as consumers begin holiday shopping.

Like many other products, the iPhone has been suffering the consequences of a global chip shortage that has impacted production and general product availability. Estimated shipping times for the iPhone 13 were spanning weeks, if not months, in some locations for specific configurations.

As the holiday season approaches, however, Apple's suppliers have managed to ease the shortage of certain components, allowing iPhone 13 production to accelerate, according to DigiTimes. Apple's supply chain partners are beginning to notice the gap between iPhone 13 demand and supply "gradually narrowing" thanks to the ramped-up production of integrated circuit boards embedded within the iPhone.

Apple this past quarter said the chip shortage and complications hindering production due to the global health crisis cost it $6 billion. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, and the company's chief financial officer, Luca Maestri, warned investors that the impact of the chip shortage is expected to be greater than $6 billion for the upcoming holiday quarter.

All of Apple's product categories, from the AirPods to the Mac, have seen considerable upgrades over the past several months that are expected to appeal to customers looking for holiday shopping.

AirPods are a popular holiday gift, and Apple released its third-generation model last month. The new AirPods feature a smaller design from the previous generation while including new features such as Spatial Audio with head tracking, Adaptive EQ, and improved durability.

In preparation for the holiday season, Apple has extended its return policy until January 8, 2022, for all purchases between November 1 and December 25. The new policy applies to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, AirPods, HomePod mini, and more.

This has been absolutely stupid. I check every week and NOTHING is available in the stores at all. Everything has to be ordered with a delivery date of a month out. I'm so tired of Apple. So stupid.

The context of the original quote to which I responded had to do with chips being held at the ports, awaiting trucks and drivers. Some, but clearly not all, chips are just sitting in cargo containers with no way to move efficiently right now.

No, I’ve never heard of Apple moving the date out for AppleCare+, however I don’t believe that starts when you order, but begins when the order actually ships And your card is charged.

Can’t you get and activate AppleCare+ just when you receive the phone, like AppleCare for Mac?

AppleCare+ starts when you purchase the plan not when you buy the device. You have 60 days from purchase to add AppleCare+ so if you're giving it as a gift you could wait until you give it to the recipient before adding it

iPhone 12? The horror.

I love how people say they are at a disadvantage for using a $1,000 phone from 2020.
Who says that?
I bought an iPhone 12 Pro because a brother of mine needed a phone and I passed my iPhone X to him.

If it had happened later this year and I had an iPhone 12 already, I would have gifted him that one instead and I would have upgraded from now “no-phone” to the 13 Pro.
