Not sure if it’s normal, but every time I take a photo, no night mode, no video, just a simple photo, it kills every app in the background.

This is on a brand new 13 Mini.

On the other hand that camera is pretty advanced and it doesn’t just take 1 photo but a set of 8 I believe, blends them, does calculations etc and the phone probably has to work with a live stream coming from each lens - just in case we users decide to switch to a different focal length for example.

Thank y’all for your replies. Didn’t happened on my old 8 as much as now but I understand Deep Fusion and all that processing may require a lot of RAM memory.

I had the same issue on my 11 Pro. Every time I open the Camera app it almost always kills everything else and have reload apps back into RAM again. Don't see that happening on 13 Pro. Can pickup almost every app exactly where I left off. Even took a 30 sec 4k 60fps video and Safari is still intact. This would never be the case on my old 11 Pro and I'm glad I upgraded for this and the ProMotion alone. Constant reloading of the apps was driving me crazy on the 11 Pro.
Will have to see how long the honeymoon lasts this time.

That’s quite normal and it has been discussed several times here. The Camera app isn’t just a regular app. There is quite A LOT of processing involved, after and even before the picture is taken on the iPhone. And it should be done in almost real-time (otherwise we would have other people here ranting about that…). So most of the resources are dedicated to that while shooting.
the fact iPhone tends to have just barely enough RAM for "normal operations " surely doesn’t help much (thanks to Tim "Greedy" Cook about that ?), and I can see my iPhone 13 Pro doesn’t reload, while my previous 11 Pro did (not always to be honest).

Makes sense, it has 2GBs more than the base models, I just can’t afford a Pro lol.

The point is all iDevices running iOS 15 should have 6 GB of RAM now. Apple is (fortunately) improving iOS functionalities but more services means more RAM used. Sooner or later (iOS 16 ? 17 ?) we will experience the same thing also on the 13 Pro…
Apple should just stop cheaping out on RAM, something they are accustomed to do also on Mac computers (the only exception being iPad Pro M1).
