5G is useless. I canceled my service and went back to 4G
after 20GB of download your internet comes to a screeching HALT
Does not just slow down! It Stops!
This is why having a 5G phone is a rip off and useless.
and its likely to get worse as 5G becomes more mainstream.

Comcast only charges you $10 for going over like 100GB but your download speed never slows.
Same with WOW cable and others.

Hopefully by the time iPhone 13 (or whatever it’s called) is released there’s a commercial Wi-Fi 6E router on the market. Because as of late 2020 there’s nothing. So even if you had a Wi-Fi 6E client like intel ax210 or the upcoming snapdragon, you’d be limited to 2.4 and 5 GHz but not 6 GHz.

Dammit...I just bought the 12.

The iPhone 12 series of phones support WiFi 6, you will be fine. The iPhone 12 is a worthy upgrade for many reasons.

I do not think WiFi 6e is going to be the factor that causes people to upgrade to the next iPhone series.

WiFi is already fast enough, and on these devices, as far as I know, they cannot even reach the top theoretical speeds.

So, rest well knowing your iPhone 12 (whichever model) was a great purchase!

It’s about time to ditch the numbering scheme anyway. At a certain point the numbers start sounding silly. Introducing iPhone 23. Introducing iPhone 47. Introducing iPhone 79.

Apple almost has to change it at a certain point.
Because by the time we would have reached "iPhone 47" phones as separate devices likely won't exist anymore. Just like iPods are no longer manufactured. Whatever device will replace the iPhone will likely be some kind of wearable with a virtual screen and 'keyboard'. Think back to what cell phones looked like 35 years ago and what their capabilities were! LOL. I should hope that in another 35 years our personal communications tech will be astounding compared to what we have now (and what we have now IS amazing).

Now, that is only if the world as we know it still exists in 35 years, and the Western world hasn't completely devolved into madness and 'tribal'/ethnic/religious state-nations.

I’d argue that iPhone 17 sounds pretty bad and we’ll be there in a few years.

Agreed.

Honestly I think at the iPhone X they should‘ve just started calling them

iPhone (determined by year model)
iPhone Max
iPhone Mini
iPhone SE

one and done. All determined by year model no other suffix needeed

5G is useless here where I live on EE the only place where there is 5G is main city centre.

I'm on a 4G plan anyway so maybe by the time my contract ends in august 2021 we will see it as thats when it will be worth having it here....so I'm glad I won't be going sim only until 2021

20Gb of download? On your phone?

I doubt Wifi 6E would make the experience any better. Wifi is already fast enough for a mobile device!

Edit: I want to add that speed is not the only factor I was thinking. Even with all the features, it sure won't be a "game changer" enough to upgrade.
I agree not worth the upgrade (strictly WiFi speaking) until more than 1 consumer 6e router is available and more devices than just my phone can utilize it. That said, I will be more than happy to upgrade as soon as that is a reality. Living in a densely populated area I would love to have that 6ghz all to myself!

Making an assumption here, but previously: Wifi APs that featured new tech using existing radios would drop to the older standard when an older device connected for compatibility purposes.
For example: a 5Ghz AC network when a 5Ghz N device needs to connect, the whole network drops to N speeds because of that 1 N device. Doesn't apply if the old device is connecting to the 2.4Ghz network as the 2 frequencies operate separately.

802.11ax has been around for more than a year and new devices are just now starting to roll out with it. Now the 6E variant. I predict 2 years until wide-spread adoption.
