100% battery capacity and ready to go!

Another year of MagSafe and wireless charging pads for the kill. Bye bye my little blue 12 mini, off it goes to earn some cash.

Creating this thread in preparation of my new iPhone 13 mini. I will report back in 2022 on my battery capacity, when the iPhone 14 (I assume) is released.

Currently I have been MagSafe charging my launch day iPhone 12 mini every night (with random wireless charging top ups). The phone has never been plugged into via the cable, and yes, I am able to run port less if it every gets to this stage. It is now Sep 2021 and my battery capacity is at 89%.

I hope this helps anyone who has battery capacity worries.

first off wireless charging IS MagSafe, don’t think they’re separate. Apple has done something to Qi charging and used magnets but it’s the same.

Just abate from be certain this is the iPhone 13 mini launched from just less than 20/30 days ago according to todays date and you’re now at 89% battery life?

I’ve had my iPhone 12 mini and mostly charged via MagSafe until early September and I’m at 89% since mid March 2021.

I thought it was widely known that fast chargers degrade battery capacity a lot quicker?

honestly speaking I feel Apples lack of increasing battery capacity significantly enough or gradually enough over every generation - except this 13 series has really HIRT Apple and is the customers.

while the competition has gone crazy and better with super fast Qi charging and larger battery capacities, we’ve been left stagnant. The now obvious and glaring issue over years of not increasing battery capacity and adding MagSafe which is incredibly convenient has been detrimental to battery health.

No longer can Apple nor any of us users and hardcore fans can say battery health over long term on iPhones rule. Heat from charging even wired and specifically over MagSafe, and no vapour chamber in iPhones has shown the Achilles heal.

it actually makes it very apparent that the 3-in-1 charger Apple tried to make failed in prototype stage. I just don’t think the expertise Apple has learned and showed from their MacBook lineup could’ve worked or been applied to the iPhones as the battery is completely different between the two.

I just hope Apple gets brilliant and practical minds with battery capacity health and long term use in future iPhones. This really saddens me and I pray the current new mini has improved.

I was talking about other 3rd party wireless charging methods.

I was talking about my old iPhone 12 mini that was 89%.

The iPhone 13 mini is at 100% now.

I'm also at 89% with my 12 Mini. And i also charged with Magsafe.
Never had an iPhone go down so fast. The only thing that changed, is that i'm using Magsafe.
And i guess that it's charging with 12W instead of 5W.

Maybe i'll try to use a weaker Power Adapter on my Magsafe Duo. Lower power should reduce the heat, even with wireless charging.
Will have to test how it handles charging the Apple Watch in that scenario though.
According to Apple it needs at least 15W to charge at the same time. But the night is long, hopefully it is smart enough to start charging the watch once the phone is full.

do you guys think it’s worth the upgrade going from 12 mini to 13 mini ?
Without regurgitating specs ..

real world daily use: (I personally waiting to upgrade).
1.5hrs avg longer battery life,
supposedly faster FaceID processing
better quality pictures - 12 series plagued with Lens-Flare, of countless reviews only Mr.Mobile stated seeing lens flare on any 13 series iPhone.
larger storage options at slightly cheaper pricing!
Faster 5G - if that matters to you (not mmWave)
^ with that more efficient cpu and GPU adding to battery consumption

Or if keeping longer term then just pay about €70 every two years or so to have Apple replace the battery.

Decide for yourself if the convenience of wireless is worth about €35/year in extra costs (on top of what you paid for your wireless charger anyway) and if so just accept the price and forget about battery health.

BTW if you do charge with a wire don’t use your phone for heavy tasks like gaming while it’s charging as that’s effectively the same heat damage.
Just turn on Low Power mode if you are charging the phone wired and using it at the sane time. In Low Power mode the 2 performance cores are disabled in the A15 and only the 4 efficiency cores are used but are down clocked to 1.37GHz (from 1.83GHz). The A15 only uses about 3 watts which keep the phone from heating up. You can even get a perfect 60 fps in video games.

100%.

I charged every day in Oct and November, but have been just charging when required in December. I’ve been off work for 3 weeks now, and I don’t need to charge every day.

Had my 12 mini since the launch. It's at 99%. I never use any fast charging. Alway use 5W wired charging and charge only to 80-90%, rarely to 100%. Also almost never let it fall below 20-25% charge.

Biggest culprit for a fast battery degradation is generally fully charging and fully draining the battery.
I always try to keep it between 20-85%.

If you are not using the full battery you might aswell have a degraded battery lol

I don’t have enough time (or interest) to use my 2.4yo XR its full 15hr SOT spec, so might as well take care of the battery with a custom optimization.

Or maybe your comment just needs some tweaking? ‘As the battery degrades over time, you may eventually need to use the full battery.‘

Curious, how often do you run the motor in your car to redline?

Not sure what you are trying to get at, but I don't run down my iPhone until it is 0% nor do I need to charge it 100% each day.

I only use about 40% a day, so I don't need to charge it to 100% everyday.

Do you use your phone until it dies and then charge it again? I doubt it.

And if they do it then it’s real bad for the battery anyway.

If you are not concerned at all about battery health, by all means go ahead deplete and recharge your battery fully, 100% to 0% to 100%.

To me, it is not a big deal to follow the 80/20 rule as well as slow charge the phone.

Still at 100% battery capacity… Daily MagSafe charging overnight, I slap it on the puck and sleep.

I follow no rules, I charge it at whatever percentage it is.

As has been pointed out in several places, the battery is probably something like 104% when it's new, so the degradation won't show up until it goes below 100%. After that you will see the number go down periodically. Some overreact and say then the whole thing is bogus, that "your iPhone is lying to you," that this is some Apple conspiracy, but I think the percentage is still useful as long as you know it's relative and it doesn't start at 100%, but a little higher.

Mine is 100%, I use the normal cable, I charge when down to 20% and when reach 90% I unplugged and use it until go to 20% again.

Bought it on Oct 27 2021.

I charge it every 2 or 3 days, I don't use it too much, so for that reason I got 2 o 3 days of battery.

Is a great phone, I love it, I love the size, I apple continue releasing minis.
