Just got the iPhone 13PM and got the 20w charger and cable for it as well . I was just curious if using the 20w charging will hurt my battery longevity and battery life in general . I saw slot of people saying to use the 10w instead to avoid battery issues in the long haul. Can someone shed some light on this for me so I can have some piece of mind about it. Thanks

As far as i know. To be safe just turn on Battery Charging Optimization. If you want to be extra safe, use a 5w charger.

What does battery charging optimization do for when I use a 20w charger ? Thanks

No it won't. The iPhone was designed with this charger in mind and also has an AI to learn charging habits. Use it and forget it.

Wanted to be sure is all. Searched this forums and saw people saying “ oh yea use the 5w” if you don’t want your battery to go down hill after a year..

Here is the thing about battery life, the more you cycle it, the faster it'll degrade. In other words, the more you go from 100% down to 20% and back up, the faster degradation you'll suffer.

Apple's estimates are based on 1 cycle per day. People are doing twice that (some even triple), so of course their battery life degrades quickly after months. That is irrelevant of the charger used.

So if I do one charge every day or 2 with fast charging I’m fine ? Right
Fast charging is just charging, fast charging is just a function of how much time less you spend hooked to a wall outlet. Charging using 5W, 7.5W, 15W or 20W it is all the same to the battery as that's (the 20W limit) its designed capacity.

Like I said, use your phone and forget about it. By the time you need a new battery you'll likely already be looking to upgrade to the next phone due to features.

My launch day 12 Pro is at 87% and this sucker has only used the 20W charger and is cycled on average 1.5 times per day.

All the harm 20w does is the extra heat, 5w or 10w produces less heat.
Also, the batter way to protect battery life is to stay in the 20% to 80% range(away from the extremes), and it's best to keep the level at 50. It's bad to charge through the night.

It learns your charging behavior(pattern), and charges to 80% until you wanted to use it.
Ex. you charge every night, and the system learned that you plug in at 11 pm and plug out at 8 am. So when you plug in the next night, your phone charges to 80 and stops, and when it gets to around 5 am, it charges to 100%. This metric is not smart at all (slow and useless learning) and I personally control it manually. I use a 20w charger and charge before I sleep and plug out (to prevent the battery to charge fully) and charge in the morning.
