Hi, so first of all English is not my first language so I don’t know if you have a word for it but my iPhone 13 Pro speakers sound like damaged. Like they are blown. It’s like when you put the speaker a little loud, usually more than half the volumen, they start sounding with a little distortion.

I don’t know if this is a defect or if that’s how they sound. This is my first iPhone in like 5 years so j don’t know what to expect. It certainly didn’t sound like this with my old SG 8.

So should I ask for a replacement? Do they event replace the phone for things like this? What if my phone has a little scratch? Does it matter for them to make my warranty valid? I’ve only had this phone for like a month but I just noticed this awful sound and once you notice then there’s no way to not notice it.

The scratch is in the bottom since my Apple clear case doesn’t cover that part of the phone.

If the phone is defective then they’ll replace it with or without the scratch. The speakers are fine on the latest iPhone. It may as well be a defect with your device. Best is to get in touch with Apple directly.

Damn. I didn’t want to change my phone because I’m guessing it’s going to take a long time. Specially because they don’t have supply right now. Do you have any experience of how long would it take? Do I need to send my phone first since there are no Apple Stores in my city? Or how would they know?

Apple does keep some stock held-back for repair/replacement purposes, so you may be able to get a replacement.

For your issue, are you sure it's the phone, and not the content you're playing through it? If the sound in the file was created badly, it could make the speaker sound like it's bad, when it's actually correctly reproducing the bad sound in the recording. If you try with a different sound file, do you hear the same problem?

It is the phone. I followed troubleshooting steps from the Apple website. It says to check it with the ring tones from the settings menu and it does sound horrible.

There’s an authorized repair center in my city. The Apple support app says I should take it there so that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m guessing they can check what’s the problem but it should be free right since is under warranty?

Only they can tell you about the warranty. Blown speakers could be caused by the user, such as by playing very badly recorded music at top volume. If the sound signal has a lot of clipping, that can damage the speaker and it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

Of course that is very hard to prove either way, so Apple may just cover it (or maybe not), so you'll just have to see what they say.

Yep morale of the story for me was don't play music too loud on the speakers and more importantly reduce volume when talking to 40 a day smoker via speaker phone. 🤣

lol are you serious? So I’m at fault for using the speakers to the max?

If you played an audio track that had a lot of distortion in it, it could have possibly caused the damage to the iPhone speaker being played at maximum volume.

So

So I went to the authorized repair center today and they said it was a defect of the phone so it should be covered under warranty. But they said they need to analizar it first to confirm what happened and the problem is that though they’re an authorized repair center, Apple hasn’t provided the machines to repair iPhone 13s, mini, pro or max so they can’t check my phone lmao.

They told me to call Apple support to see what they can do or to go to another city to see if they have the machines.

So did you get it exchanged after all? I seem to have the same issue on some high pitched sounds on the earpiece on my 13pm. Actually went to 3 shops where they have them displayed and checked them all and all seem to have this issue more or less. I guess all this issue but some just don’t realise, like the stutter on 60fps videos on yt

Seems like it’s normal then. I have some products like an iPad Mini 4 that has serious distortion at the highest volume. My phones seem fine though but I do tend to play music at the 2nd highest setting to avoid causing any accidental damage.

No. We tested some iPhone 13 pros and some iPhone 12s and they sound horrible too lol so we assumed that’s actually just crappy sound quality. I mean, I wasn’t used to it because I was coming from an android device which speakers quality I guess is great compared to iPhones :(

My guess is that simply some are more or less prone to this crackle in the speakers.
Too bad for such expensive phones.

Either that or they have such a bad defect rate.

I hear it with the normal ringtone reflection.

Answer here is simple, the iPhone speakers are not robust enough and don’t belong on a premium phone. I had the same problem with my 11pro and now my 13 pro as well. Distortion after about 6-9 months of use, both times from the earpiece speaker. Basically the speakers is blown.
It’s a shame because the sound quality of the speakers is very good but I think they pushed the volume too far to the limits of what the speaker can handle. They need to build in a factor of safety into the ability of the speaker to take volume (because often call quality is poor due to signal so clipping can’t be helped) and limit the max volume to a safe level. I take good care of my phones and never run full volume music but keep getting this issue with iPhones.
