So something strange happens with my new iPhone 13 Pro. I’m hoping it’s just my Anker lightning cable and not a faulty phone.

Here’s what it’s doing. When I am charging my phone my battery lightning icon will randomly start blinking and/or making the connected and disconnected sound. It’s as if I’m plugging and unplugging my charger. I don’t know if its a faulty phone or cable. I’m using an Anker lightning cable because I don’t have an adapter for the USB C one that came with the phone. Could it be that the Anker cable doesn’t have enough juice to charge the phone? Is that a thing?

I don’t know what’s going on. I tried the Anker lightning cable with my iPad and it hasn’t done the disconnect thing. I need to test it more though to make sure. Has anybody had something like this happen?

It really sucks because I love everything about my phone but this shouldn’t be happening. I also got it on a good promo and trade in at Best Buy. If I return it looks like I’ll get a gift card for what they gave me for my phone. Seems so much of a hassle. Does anybody know if Best Buy would do a straight up replacement? Would Apple replace it? I don’t want to have to get it repaired when it’s a week old.

Yes if the Anker cable is pretty old then this happens. I have an Anker cable which does the same from time to time.

The best way to test this is with the official Apple cable. If it works fine with the Apple cable then the fault is in the Anker cable. Simples.

Actually, I think it is normal when optimized charging is turned on. My iPhone, my Mac, and my iPad all do that. I've never bothered to try figuring out if the cable matters, and I'm using Apple cables with a non-Apple charger.

Really? Mid charge randomly the lightning icon will flash and drop charge or make the disconnect/connect sound? That’s weird I’ve never seen that when a phone isn’t fully charged. Even when fully charged I’ve never seen the devices charge go in and out.

Yea the thing is I don’t have a USB C adapter. I think my 14 day return period is up pretty soon too, guess I’ll have to buy one to test it. Sucks though because this lightning cable has never given me any issues with my old phone or my iPad. Which is why I was asking if it’s a new iPhone 13 Pro thing where its not pushing enough power or something.

How old is your old phone? My cable did that with the iPhone 11 Pro as well.

iPhone 8. Which cable the original cable or an aftermarket one? Did the issue end up resolving what was it?

Yep I bought a new Amazon cable and it charges fine on that. No issues.
Good to hear probably just my cable then. Which one did you get was it a USB C one?

I’d like to get a longer one than the stock apple cable that came with my phone. I thought Anker was really good but I guess not.

I just got the 3 meter long Amazon made USB A cable. I’ve got too many USB A sockets. USB C will mean changing all my sockets and charging accessories.
