Hey guys, just a quick question to any new iPhone 13 Pro owners like me:

Do you guys have what appears to be like the tiniest gap in between the top speaker and the steel band? It’s only visible at certain angles in the right light, but i’m worried that I may have received a dud with a broken waterproof seal that will need replacing. Check attached photos to see what I mean.

I appreciate any help, Thanks in advance

Yes it’s fine. To make it more visually pleasing you may want to take a thin piece of paper, (or be extremely careful with a razor blade) and remove what looks like to be glue from above the right portion of the speaker. Should make uniform and less noticeable.

Thanks for all the help guys:)

I don’t even mind the way it looks because it’s barely noticeable and I only happened to notice it because I was just looking at the colour from different angles.

As long as it’s normal and therefore water resistant as advertised i’m happy.

All the best everyone!

It’s not glue. It’s a metal part from the internals of the phone.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that looks like a defect/gap to me. Here‘s a picture of the top of my brand new 13 Pro

I have the same issue. Contacted apple and they said there shouldn’t be a gap

Ah well, time to go switch out my day old phone for a new one:p

Hope they give me a complementary screen protector otherwise that’s money down the drain

Yep, mine doesn't have that gap. It has other problems (like the right half of the screen ever so slightly darker than the left one), but the gap isn't there

I talked to Apple support and they said it should be okay i.e. fairly normal and not affecting water resistance, however he still recommended that I get it checked out at the Apple store so he booked me for an appointment.

Regardless of what they say i’ll be getting it exchanged because of the 14 day return period and i’d rather not take any expensive risks on a brand new product like this.

I guess this highlights the importance of closely examining any iphone you get, even when they’re brand new!

It’s normal. Every phone will have gaps around the bezel. This was discussed at length with the 12 lineup. Enjoy your phone!
No. My iPhone 12 Pro doesn’t have any gap, nor does my brand new 13 Pro.

Absolutely not “normal”.

There is a gap somewhere around the edge of the glass. It might be the top, bottom or either side. These phones are not made with zero tolerance between the frame and the glass. There is some tiny gap but if, somehow, the display is perfectly centered in the frame, the gap will be less noticeable.

"Le meglio è l'inimico del bene." -Italian proverb by Voltaire..... It roughly translates to: "Perfect is the enemy of that which is good." The gaps are normal enjoy your phone.

I've got one on my mini and a mini I ordered to replace it - really noticeable with the light colored metal 🙃

Maybe these gaps are the new normal then?😄 Maybe no gap owners should be worried…

All jokes aside, I used to run my 11 pro max under the tap whenever it got dirty to give it a clean. With this phone im simply not brave enough to try that right now, and for that reason alone i’ll try to replace it atleast once. If my replacement has a gap too, i’ll accept it for what it is:)

Water resistant or not I'm not running an iPhone under the tap. I use a damp clothe to wipe it once a month.
I may just be spoiled by all the Apple water resistance adverts, and my apple watch water resistance. I’m used to no longer worrying about any tech that I carry at all times when it comes to water contact. Even my airpods the rain was never a concern. With my 11PM it never felt scary for it to touch water just as it never felt scary to use it even in heavy rain, and I’m a big fan of that comfort😁

Ok. Well I have it here also. And I fear/think any replacements will have the same thing.

Already using this phone for 4 days, having it my jeans pocket - it's not quite water I fear, it's perhaps lint getting UNDER the screen eventually.

No idea, I'll keep my eye on it. 🙄

It probably goes by lots. Any phone in your country and/or store for a while will be probably like this. Maybe in a month it will be different, the gap might be more on the left, on the right, or on the bottom. My gold is fine so they're not all like this. Each and every phone has different problems of course. Maybe one with no gap will have a dimmer display, or warmer on one side, or slightly out of focus camera, or dead pixels, or slightly worse battery life or antennas etc. We must settle on an acceptable level of quality.

You’re right. Looking under the gap on mine as I type this, there is some dust and lint already in there scattered around. It’s not drastic but it’s definitely there. It does seem like it’s deeper than the screen so if anything I don’t think it could be visible on the actual phone screen (hopefully).

Some here definitely do not have the gap so it’s probably a lottery and I don’t know what the odds are. That being said, if the gap is popular then that probably means it doesn’t affect water resistance, otherwise that could be quite the lawsuit against Apple.

So it may just be cosmetic. But I think it’s fair to say that brand new iphones should have no cosmetic problems at all, not even minor ones.
