I have a small gap between the stainless band and the top of the earpiece. Has any else noticed such a gap on their phones? I have a few here for family/friends and only mine has this gap. Worried about liquid ingress…

omg I literally just showed my girlfriend this. I have a gap right above the ear piece on the top right. I can see a thin grey line. you too?

Exactly! It looks sort of like if the metal wasn’t pushed down hard enough on the earpiece. My gap runs the length of the earpiece though, even slightly past it on both sides, so I can see that grey line/metal on both sides.

mine runs about 30% of the ear piece. I have no idea what im going to do. it is very noticeable though

I’m not bothered unless it’s a liquid ingress weak point. I’m not really sure, though. I wonder if any of the teardowns show anything in that area…

the fact that 3 of the 4 dont have it, Im going with its not normal. Its prob a cosmetic flaw but for the price I paid (1199$ plus tax) Im not settling for it
If it’s cosmetic it doesn’t bother me. If it’s more than that it does. No way of knowing right now, it seems…

exactly and im going to Hawaii in 3 weeks where ill be around water all day. Def dont want something messed up that far from home

I have the exact same issue on my iPhone 13 pro. Just trying to find out if it’s a problem or just cosmetic since I can see a piece of metal inside.

Post a picture what you are refeeing to. I only see the ear piece on my 13 Pro Max. And it has a small metal mesh screen on it.

You can see some internal piece of metal in the gap. Also fit a piece of paper.

I don’t have a gap on my 13 Pro. I‘ll check my wife’s tomorrow, but I would consider a gap to be a defect. Here’s a picture of my top earpiece and frame:

Yours looks normal. The gap was the first thing I noticed when I first opened my phone.

Ok my wife’s iPhone 13 Pro has it, to a lesser degree, too. So I’m going to say normal. It’s also hard to see without a direct light on it with here, and slightly more noticeable on mine. Not going to let it bother me.

@ OP

exchanged mine for a new retail unit in Hawaii. First one delivered to California. Same gap. Same spot. Display phones had it too. Not worth exchanging since others have it imo
Yeah I expect some are worse than others but all are likely “within spec.”
