My phone seems to have higher battery usage and while using the phone seems warmer than when on IOS 15.4.1 I updated on Monday so any indexing should have been completed, I’ve done a hard reset

In my experience, every time a new update is installed, the phone does background stuff for a very long time.

Personally I wouldn’t pay attention to it until maybe 7 days after an update. Maybe keeping it plugged in over night for a few nights can help it do what it needs to do.

It's called indexing. It happens as the OS maps out changes for the spotlight feature. It goes away after a few hours or couple of days.
