Was kayaking in Sausalito, Ca last week when a friend dropped his iPhone 13 Pro Max into the water. He took off his shirt and went looking for it in the 57°F, 15‘ deep water. The visibility was zero, so he had to feel around blindly on the muddy bottom. After several attempts he gave up, but not for long...

He came back the next day with his dive gear and a bright light. Again, no luck. Finally found it after 4 days in the water using a metal detector. Here’s a photo of the phone after being charged and powered up, with one of the last photos taken before being dunked (just before we left the beach).

Nice. Tell Apple to revise their IP68 claims. 4 days beneath X metres.

I washed an iPhone 12 mini in the washing machine. Completed the whole cycle. I right away took out SIM card , and put it in a baggie with little desiccant bags. It worked fine, and no red line inside where SIM card goes.
