iPhone 13 Pro Max Iphone 13 pro max will not auto connect to wifi

I just got a newer iphone 13 max pro and it will not auto connect to wifi - I am upgrading from an iphone xmax that never had this problem. I have reset the phone, toggled crap on and off, and erased and reset it all again - wifi assist is off. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If Reset Network Settings doesn’t work, return the phone to 

No - I tried that several times. I was on with apple chat for 2 hours and they don't know what is wrong either and diagnistics wouldn't run properly

I think it is a glitch between att and the iphone - it will auto connect to my friend's wifi

So if diagnostics fail there is no replacement option (Apple Care, return period)?

yes there is replacement option butI think it is not the phone but a software glitch between att router and the phone
