From my experience, mini’s otherwise excellent 5.4” OLED screen provides a very mediocre video watching experience. The screen is just too small. Mirroring it to a bigger screen or Apple TV is another matter, but then you might as well plug it in?
I wonder what users felt with the iPhone 3GS or the 4S or 5S when watching video.

We're not trying to watch the latest blockbuster ... but short short videos meant ideally for internet consumption or in a pinch when no other large screen is available for considerable time. On those older devices video was quite fine with many on these boards re-wrapping DVD exports into Mp4 or H.264 and smaller resolution to fit the needs of not just storage but resolution of those devices.

Just curious. Another thing I want to mention is when i use my old iphone SE, i mainly use one hand to type and other things many times. This would be a huge issue with the iphone 13 right?

Can people use the iphone 13 with no problem just one hand? I assume only ppl with big hands? Thus if im walking, i always hold phone in one hand to type and click on things etc. Or is almost everyone using two hands to do this if using the iphone 13?
depends how your type with one hand that you're referring to:

iOS move the keyboard to one side and type.
use swipe function to enter data.
actually fully typing 1 hand 1 thumb - this may be more frustrating with small hands on the regular 13 or pros. Most people barely do this that want the larger screen. it all comes down to use case and habits of the person. If you can get to a store or try a friends iPhone models have at it before making your decision.

I cannot emphasize 'your decision' enough, ultimately it's your hard dollar spent and choice over long term.

So I ordered the iphone 13 as oppose to the mini. Again i was leaning with the mini the whole way but then decided to go with the regular size. My question is... should I have done that or not?

Again, im used to small phones but I ended up ordering the iphone 13 regular size. But if i dont like it, I can go to apple store and return it for the mini and then get the price difference back to my credit card?

Because I thought when i went to apple store last time, the iphone 13 didn't feel as big as i thought it would have. But of course im use to holding the old SE with one hand and typing with one hand etc. Also is the screen size really that big of a difference? Again i had an old iphone SE so size is already small. Is there really a big screen size difference between the iphone 13 vs the mini? Now of course the bigger battery is nice.

Sure thing, iPhones 12–13 mini screens shine in a small screen category. It is just if someone wants to watch lots of videos on an iPhone, might as well go for a bigger screen - a better watching experience, kinder on the eyes and the battery will last longer. Think of the TV screens - not many people are looking for tiny ones. On the contrary - the bigger the panel, the better. The price of iPhone 12 is now the same as iPhone 13 mini.

PS Just to be clear, I use iPhone 12 mini and absolutely love it, as I move a lot and it works very well for me. However, every time I want to really enjoy a video, I reach for an iPad.

Since you have ordered it now, you have an extended return period with no questions asked until early January (winter holidays special). So you will have plenty of time to try iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini or any other iPhone if you like. ?

There is considerable screen size difference between 13 & mini, similar to between 13 & SE. You see more content at once, and everything is slightly enlarged and spaced further apart. Take the onscreen keyboard, for instance. I suppose it's harder to type with one hand on the 13, but I use two hands to type, and for me typing on mini is harder because it's much easier to hit the wrong key when they're spaced so close together.

Not necessarily true.

The 5.4" on Mini, 6.1" on regular, that's a .7" difference yet browsing in Safari/FireFox/FF-Focus/Edge it's only 2 lines more of text on the screen, even with small font maybe 3 lines. Visually with social media apps icons are just bigger so you don't actually see much more of the content, vs icons, borders, and white space stretched out more. Watching a movie yes you'll see more but considerable (?) that may be left to the eye of the beholder ;)

Cheers.

I like to add. People say they type with two hands. I dont do that with my old SE. The other thing is people mention how the onscreen keyboard is very tight with the mini and they make tons of typing mistakes. Well wouldn't that mean using the old SE means the keyboard is even tighter and you make more typing mistakes? I mistype a lot on it but i dont care as i just delete etc. But i never consider that a big issue. I dont do any reading or anything like that much on my iphone. I use it for youtube and skype and other chat apps etc. I dont even find watching things on youtube that bad while say im watching it laying on the bed etc. But this would be much bigger issue with the 13 as oppose to the mini right?

Again i ended up buying the 13 because i thought well i want the real thing... as oppose to mini version of it. But the whole time i was going to buy mini until i decided to change last at the last thought. Now as a guy, do you have issues putting the 13 in your front pocket? Now the old se i like it because i could slip it in my pocket easily but not only that, when you use it, you pick it up easily and can check things easily. This is very hard to do with the regular 13 right? But the mini would be much easier?

Again even though the old SE screen is very small to all of you... i never have an issue watching things on youtube from it. Because before the old iphone SE, i used the 4S. Now i like to know why do so many of you want a big screen? I man if you want to watch something, cant you use your ipad or tv? Also the mini screen size is even bigger than the second SE... so isn't that a lot of screen real estate already?

Do you recommend me to order the mini now? So i first get the 13, then few days later get the mini? Then return one of them?

Thanks.

Sounds to me the way you describe the use and portability of you SE & 4s that you'd be perfectly happy with the mini. Not to sway you either way but might as well order both and return the one you decide not to keep.

Okay so you suggest me to order the mini now then right?

Also i have something like this as a powerbank where I would have with me and my connecting charger with my iphone SE when im outside in case my old iphone SE battery gets low... which does a lot since the battery is now very bad. Could i use the same one with either the iphone 13 or the mini? I assume I can't becaues its not the same cable since those are usb -c? Or what would i need? Because the more i think about it, even if the mini battery isn't as great the as the regular iphone... i am using it at home anyway... so i could have powerbank to charge it?

The brand seem to be called Poweradd on it. But the link i post is a different brand as I an't seem to find this one anymore.

If not, which powerbank do I need?

Totally up to you but you really sound undecided between the two sizes. For me it was a no brainer to buy the mini, I looked the the regular 13 and yes the larger screen is nice but like you said there are iPad and laptops if you really want to immerse yourself. I used the extra $100 for storage space, my old SE was 128gb and I used about 99 but figured if pictures and videos were in higher resolution it might take more space.

The powerbank you have will do fine but don't be surprised if you find that you won't use it. The battery is much improved over the SE, I had swapped my SE battery this summer so it was and still is full health.

Would that powerbank I currently have work for both the iphone 13 and the 13 mini though?

But the iphone 13 and mini uses a usb c cable though? I did order that 20W power adapter from apple as well.

But you are saying if i want to use my old powerbank, which cables would i be using?

Should work for either phone, just use the same cable you used for your SE.

Thanks. But the cable for the new iphone won't work then right?

But there are powerbanks out there that would support all these iphones? My old SE and the new iphone?

But you still say I should order the mini and try it out right? Again i order the regular 13 and now thinking its probably not good idea since the mini... well i think its more portable. But do most ppl just buy two phones and use it for a week before they send one back?

I don't believe everything on YT, but since I don't want to buy all these different iPhones to test out myself I do my homework and figure out who to believe and who's full of it. When results are similar to what I happen to see it's not just coincidence. I doubt they're out to push people to buy that latest.
Tomsguide appears to be the closest to reality.
If I were Apple - I’d totally pay off YouTubers to promote the latest and greatest

iPhone 13 and 13 mini both use lightning connector, not USB-C. The original SE also uses lightning connector.

As long as the power delivery is enough, your current power bank should work.

Sweet I like and trust Tomsguide! If I were to get 8:41 out of my phone I'd be ecstatic. Don't think I'd ever find out though since I barely average 5.
If being away from power for a long time or if there was an outage then having one of the large phones that lasted a few more hours would be a plus.

Okay to confirm

If i ordered few iphones in November and plan to return one or even both of it... I have till January to return it as oppose to the two week return period right?

I only opened one of my packages. The iphone 13 mini only and it seems okay in terms of holding it. I still have the iphone 13 in the box. Would it be fine just returning the iphone 13 like that without opening the package? Thing is I don't want to risk damaging it etc. Thus I opened the iphone 13 mini first since that is the one I planned to keep.

Now for returning it, how do you return it by mail? Or do most people go to apple store to return it? Do they use UPS or Fedex? Is it similar to how amazon does it where you print the label and drop it off? However... the last time i had to return a regular package via UPS, amazon told me i could give them the QR code and the person at UPS store scans it and that was good enough. Does apple allow this? So that way I don't need to return to print a shipping label?

Like to know how the majority of you are returning your iphones here.

I want to know if this is normal. I charged the iphone 13 mini to 100% last night. Then now maybe around 13 hours later, I click on the right button on the side to turn it on ... it wasn't powered off... I see the battery is now 89%. I did not power off the phone but just left it on with the screen not turned on etc.

Is this normal? How can it lose that much percentage when it's not doing anything?

It does not sound normal at all

Okay so turning off background refresh is good idea then overnight? Also with wifi? However, I don't want certain programs to not alert me at night... example skype, whatsapp, wechat etc. So if i put no for background refresh it does it too all apps right? But what about just having it turned on few a few apps? Would that help?

Do people here turn off wifi overnight though when their iphone is on standby? Doesn't seem like good idea if you might get call or text or message with those apps?
