Since Apple refuses to put chargers in the box for enviromental reasons *coughs*, the vast majority of people will have to buy MagSafe to charge their portless iPhone 13.

Now if you think you can use your standard Qi charger with the iPhone 13, I am sure Apple will cripple the charging on standard Qi to force people to buy MagSafe.

The rumours have always said its 1 model which will be portless. Have you got a reputable source which states every single iPhone 12s model will be portless?

What is the point of this thread. 🤔

Pointing out the fact it's ridiculous to spend 800+ on a device and not have the ability to charge it without buying something else.

Portless charging is no doubt the future, but Apple, with it's record earning quarters should help ease the transition. While I thought it too was ridiculous for the iPhone 12 to not include the charging block (people like me sell or hand down devices along with the accessories), it will be doubly so if you force customers to buy an extra accessory to get the main purchase working that I would venture to say the majority doesn't have yet. I'm sure there will be several "Just buy a wireless charger dude!", for those caught in Apple's tractor beam of doing no wrong. Steve's reality distortion field is alive and well. "Yes Apple, I will pay more. Yes Apple.." like sorta mantra.

No difference to buying an electric car... you either have to buy or rent a charger. And that’s a lot more money than an iPhone, and so are the chargers.

It may not be an ideal situation, but it’s one that people will adapt to pretty quickly over a year or two if a portless phone did ever materialise.

The portliness iPhone may not be a true portless phone as it will need to support data transfer with things like CarPlay. For this reason, the "portless" iPhone could come with a smart connector or a way to transfer data over MageSafe. I highly doubt Apple will develop a wireless CarPlay adapter.

They all come with at the least a level 1 charger that can be plugged into a standard outlet. Many now also include hybrid level 2 chargers.

Yet people will still buy iPhones, including me. 😂

Samsung was mocking apple for removing the charger, then surprise surprise what did they do, copy apple like they always do, not including a $29 charger in the box isn't going to stop people from buying the latest phones.

What's another kick in the ..... is that when you buy a "MagSafe" charger, you are again forced to buy the brick. So effectively you you're spending 60 bucks to charge the device if you go port-less and that goes back to the OP's original message IF the 13 is port-less and doesn't include a way to charge. I know there are cheaper alternatives, but wow.. Buy the 1100 Pro Max and the 40 dollar MagSafe to only be forced still into the 20 dollar brick.

We will see when the 13 ships, if it's port-less and what Apple will do for the customer.. If Apple's infomercial..er...event pans to someone on a roof standing near solar panels and trying to get you excited about Apple's efforts to be eco friendly while you flip the bill for it, I'll laugh. We will see.

Well, I'm glad I upgraded from charging my iPhone from my old trusty 10W iPad charger to using the new 20W Apple charger when I need that speed boost to charge. It's pretty great and convenient to use the fast charge.

Portless or not, I'm glad I have the newest power brick so I'm in the clear for the next few years with this new 20W brick.

Charger charger whaaaa whaaa. Don’t buy Apple then!! Lots of choices out there.

Sorry, some people value their cash. Yes, there are many choices. One of the reasons I am not upgrading my phone. I'll wait and see how things settle. I am invested in the Apple ecosystem so a change wouldn't be easily to start with. But if Apple continues the focus on margins and profits (at least my perception) while diminishing the user experience I will migrate (at least mobile devices).

With that said, lots of speculation here. We have no idea what the iPhone 13 will have or not. I just wouldn't bash people for thinking they're getting a bit shorted in this situation.

$19 for Apple’s 20W fast charger is pretty damn good value if I’m being honest. Apple is super geeky and nerdy and picky about their chargers being safe and working perfectly with their products. The 18W charger used to be $39 before right?

I would not trust those tiny Anker 20W nano chargers that online marketing has pushed online recently when the iPhone 12 came out. Or any third party charger. That stupid thing gets incredibly hot on the outlet and makes the iPhone very warm. Apple makes some of the best power bricks that last decades, literally. I still have my 5W original iPhone power brick and it works lol

Not to mention, one time my battery swelled up on an older iPhone of mine and the first thing Apple asked me is if I was using a 3rd party charger and cable. 😬 Oops.

Thanks for the report.

Something like this feels years away.

Dumb title

of course it will be expensive, look at how much the 12 (and other iPhone lineups since at least the A11 Bionic ones/maybe A10 fusion iPhones) were out.

Apple doesn't cripple third-party bricks, USB/Lightning cables, or headphones so why would they cripple my $20 Anker wireless charger I bought on Amazon ?

If Apple do introduce a iphone model which is portless (according to some rumours), they will market this as a premium feature so it will likely be on the Pro Max model. It will probably be like the smart connector on the Ipads. Apple will have to make it charge and transfer data at higher speeds than lightning to attract buyers. They may also release some kind of accessories that are powered by said smart connector (keyboards etc).

Don't worry, magsafe 2.0 will make your magsafe 1.0 stuff obsolete (just like Apple pencil 2, incompatible with Apple Pencil 1).

Magsafe 1.0 seems rushed (leaving marks on cases, weird charging behaviors with older iPhones, etc). Once the iPhone is portless, the wireless solution must include power and data connectivity, so I speculated Apple will make Magsafe 2.0, a slew new set of accessories, and you have to re-buy your charger all over again. :D

Yes, I spent 40K on a vehicle, and I am required to purchase my own gasoline? s/
