That’s great but I’ve dropped my 13 Pro at least 30 times in the last year with no case and the back glass is perfect. You’d really have to intentionally want to break it to do some damage, it’s much stronger and scratch proof compared to the metal sides.
Did you drop it 30 times on a bean bag?! For the first time I dropped my iPhone 12 Pro and the back glass cracked. To suggest you'd have to intentionally break it is an outrageous comment.

I still won't buy it, but having a connection with my beloved 4s (best iPhone ever imo) is enough to warm the heart.

Why not customizable backs? I'd choose the back made of a material that doesn't shatter or scratch. Thick textured rubber would be nice. I'd also go for 1980's macintosh plastic, that stuff was tough too.

Nice! Back in the iphone 4 days (or maybe 5) I had a clear back glass. Hopefully thats possible now!! Wooo
It would be the 4/4S series. I had one of those too... but the glass was of craptastic, chintzy quality compared to the thicker/oleophobic coated one Apple used.

The Apple site says $169 to replace the iPhone 14 rear glass without AppleCare.

iPhone 14 Pro is $499

iPhone 13 is $449

So yes, it’s cheaper.
Damn…as someone with a 14 Pro Max on order that kinda blows to hear.

I’m guessing it’s even more expensive than the regular Pro? (Sorry, I’d check but I’m lazy and getting AppleCare anyway. :p)

I remember replacing the back glass of my iPhone 4 at an Apple Store for $29 in 2012.

As I recall with the 4/4S the back glass was the way the phone opened, so that was easy to replace but you had to disassemble a lot to change the screen.

The 5/5S and future phones flipped this so that the screen was easier to replace, but damage to the back meant swapping out the main body of the phone.

Sounds like the new design is potentially the best of both.

Complaint for years: It needs to me more repairable and accessible!!!!

iPhone becomes more repairable a accessible.

Complaint: there’s an evil ulterior motive: they are only doing this to reduce warranty work, or, they are using inferior parts and know they will have to access more, or . . . . . . . . . Darn you Apple and Tim!!

It seems there is truly no reasonable way to satisfy the consumer

True enough but still, repair costs have gone up across the board. Apple may not have increased the base price of the phone itself (in the US anyway) but they are finding ways to make that money back.

So the form factor is like a throwback to iPhone 5/5s/SE 2016 with iPhone 4/4s ease of access regarding the back cover...

If people don't complain, we will never see improvements. Apple decided to put a fragile GLASS back cover on their iPhone (not me), so changing this back cover should be as easy as unscrewing two screws. Same apply for the display assembly and battery, which are the most serviced parts by a wide margin.

Nope concrete floor (I only have microcement floors at home) and outside on tarmac, not even a slight mark on it. Also I believe the glass changed to the iPhone 13 Pro, but again the 12 Pro was no problem for me either. I've owned every iPhone since the first one and never used a case on any of them (apart from the 6s Plus which was the worst one i've ever owned).

I just wish the oleophobic coating lasted longer than 6 months.
