So what’s the better value option? They are priced similarly and from my understanding the 14 plus has better battery, screen brightness, whereas iPhone 13 Pro Max has the better camera, pro motion.

Any thoughts?

14 pro pros: modem (signal reception is very very good), display brightness and quality, island, speed and camera

14 pro cons: wifi reception not so good like 13 pro

Get the 13 Pro, it‘s a much better choice. You get an extra lens and a higher refresh rate screen. The only slight downside is the extra weight.

I would have said the 13 PM was the better value. Both have exactly the same processor and two of the same cameras, but with the PM you get an extra telephoto lens, pro motion, higher quality build (stainless steel) etc. Bear in mind Apple are withdrawing both 13 pros from sale, partly because the 14 and 14 plus wouldn’t really make much sense up against them.

The 14 Plus does not have better screen brightness than the 13 Pro Max.
Look at the specs:

It't the 13 Pro Max that has better brightness (typcal) and they are on par with HDR peak brightness.

So I would go for the 13 Pro max and enjoy ProMotion/120Hz display!

13 pro max will feel more premium, extra lens also. Much better value if you get a good deal. And right now there are many good deals if you go second hand as many are trying to sell theirs to upgrade. So in addition to being a better phone you might get a better price too.

I don't know yes the 14 pro max is a better phone but op might just want the basics and the 14 plus has a big screen, lighter, and will get a year update more most likely.

I would go for the 13 PM. Better screen (ProMotion) and camera. If I had never upgraded my iPhone 12 to the 13 PM, I would have waited for the 14 Plus, but after using ProMotion for a year, there’s no way I’m giving that up.

If you want or use the telephoto, go with iPhone 13 Pro Max [if you can afford both]

The odd part about iPhone 14 Plus is that it has extremely limited new features compared to iPhone 13 Pro Max.

14 plus, larger, lighter.. newer.. this is the like the MBA M2 and MBP M1 debate 😄
Agree - love the lighter weight, larger screen, and has SOS Emergency.

If it were not for the SOS Emergency feature, I would have skipped the 14 Plus and kept my 12 Pro.

Considering both iPhone are around the same price, I’d say 13 Pro Max for the better features. I opted for the 13PM as was able to get it a few days after the 14 launch on a decent deal. I think they are selling out fast though now.

203 gr vs 238 gr is a lot…could change completely the experience handling the phone. For example in my case, I like to watch movies resting on the bed holding the iphone with one hand.

It’s not an easy decision by any means. With 14 plus apart from 35 grams less you have X65 modem that seems to be night and day compared with last year X60, new selfie camera with 1.9 faster aperture (same of 14 pro), photonic engine, action mode in video, according to apple “best battery on an iPhone ever”(although this has to be checked in real tests), bluetooth 5.3 (very interesting if you have airpods pro 2 or maybe airpods max 2 in the future with lossless audio).

However, with 13 PM you gain promotion, macro/telephoto lens and lidar sensor (portrait in night mode), proRAW & proRES.

This is a great discussion without a doubt.

13 Pro Max all the way. It has more features and is more premium. Plus it will hold more value even when selling or trading in next year.

In this forum it seems that majority of people buy iphone pro/pro max & watch ultra. Rest of products have little or none interest.

Between the iPhone 14 plus and 13 pro max I choose the 14 plus. The weight of the max is 240 grams. Not 237 as stated in an earlier post here. So that’s a 37 gram weight savings. Much lighter. You also get the better modem, better Bluetooth, and the same 6gb of ram as the 13 max. And you get the crash detection, and satellite communication.

But here is a benefit nobody has mentioned. I’m sure the internals of the iPhone 14 plus will be the same as the regular 14. Meaning the display and back glass is easily removed and replaced making for much cheaper repairs. For example to repair the back glass of an iPhone 13 is $449 without apple care. To repair the iPhone 14 it’s 169$ without applecare. I think the 13 max costs 500$ or more.

Yeah so I see that as “insurance“ I’ll take the 14 plus

Hi,

Weight of 13 Pro Max is 238 grams has stated in early post. Here you have Apple specs comparing both models in dimensions.
Anyway, weight save is more that enough to think about it.
