Bought an iPhone 14 Pro in December and have been pleased with it.

Yesterday the touch screen just went completely unresponsive.
Found online lots of people have had this problem but most have managed to solve it by doing a hard restart (you can't just switch off because the slider on the screen that comes up is dead).

Tried that about 5 or 6 times, didn't work.

So, did a connection to my Mac, and put into Recovery Mode. Clicked "Update" (not Restore!).
It downloaded updated iOS, updated firmware and restarted. Presented with a white screen and the message "Swipe up to recover".

But the screen was still dead and can't swipe up.
Tried it again, same thing (except it skipped the 6GB download thank goodness).

Taken to an Apple Service Centre this morning and they will check it out. I will update.

Has anyone had the same problem? I've never seen this in an iPhone before.

When you do hard restart did you do the volume up, then volume down and then the side button till the apple logo appears?

Yes, and then to initiate Recovery Mode I did the same thing plugged into a Mac and waiting until the little picture showing you to connect to a computer.

So just got off the line / chat with Apple "Service". Bottom line is I have to send it in for repair, 7 to 10 days, and they will replace the screen, which is just what told at the service centre.
We argued for an exchange as phone is only 6 weeks old. No deal where I live - the 1 year warranty is "limited" and Apple have the option to repair or replace after they try to repair. So, no phone for a couple of weeks. I am beyond 🤬 off!

What role does region (where you live) play in this?
If I was still in the UK I'm pretty sure that the law would allow an exchange within a reasonable period as the phone is clearly not fit for purpose. But I'm not, and where I'm based now there are no such laws.....

Update

So rather than wait for Apple to ship a box to return the phone to them, I went back to the service centre (it's an Apple exclusive dealer with limited repair facilities).

They said they'd replace the screen but if that didn't work it would have to go to Apple in another city. That would take 7 to 10 days. Not including weekends or holidays!

After helping to remove the phone from Apple ID using iCloud online, they took the phone to try and fix.

A couple of hours later got a call - phone ready for collection. Yaaay!

They replaced the screen and it worked. Phone was busy "restoring data".
I asked what was wrong and all they would say was it was a "factory fault".
All done for free (except they wouldn't give me a new screen protector to replace the one that went with the old screen, so will need to buy a new one).

Phone now working fine and nothing was lost during the repair - but a timely reminder to back up, which I hadn't!

To round off, my family and I have bought scores of Apple devices over many years, and this is the first one ever to have had such a major issue, and so soon! This has dented my confidence in the brand just a little bit - I hope this isn't a sign of a downward trend in quality.

Thank you to those that contributed.
