The dimming of the display is major issue with no solution as soon the the brightness goes up just a few minutes and with the phone cold it will dimm to the point to be impossible to use this is unacceptable for 1500 dollar device, the displays are defective do not deliver what have been promised, the device is unusable in bright day light even the original iPhone had a better display. What a disappointment.

Do you have a case on it making heat up perhaps? No idea on regular behaviour, don’t have this phone.

I have a case on mine, it's too fragile not to, but just yesterday I noticed that it was pretty useless outside in the sun, I couldn't see it at all, and this was right out of my pocket. (i14 Pro)

I tried taking mine off at the amusement park last summer. Sat there for at least five minutes but still was super dim.

The question is for how long. Even today it stays bright for 2 minutes and then dims all the way down because it's too hot. I can't imagine that at 2000 nits it's going to do much better.
This happens with the iPhone 14?

I am currently barely able to see the screen of my iPhone 12 Pro Max. The screen just darkens in the sunlight. It's the most annoying thing ever. I was about to run and buy a 14 until I saw this comment. Plz halp.

All the Oleds do this. Phones should be lcd - it’s a utility device not a home theatre.

This was already improved with the iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max. The 12 Pro was notoriously bad in that department.
Yes, your phone will most likely still dim in the sunlight if it gets too hot. In most cases it’s not even related to the type of screen you have, but the internal temperature of your device.
I’m still rocking a 13 Pro Max and the only scenario where I experience noticeable dimming is on a beach when the device gets extremely hot. Other than that, I never have any issues outside.
