Purchased on launch day and noticed this morning the rear has 3 scratches already! I’ve barely used the phone and haven’t dropped the phone once. Phone always goes in the same pocket without anything else.

My 13 pro survived a year without a case and not a single scratch on the rear. Contacting apple later 😞

This is surprising to hear. The back doesn’t feel any different to me and I’ve had my phone since launch day morning, used it without a case the whole time. Back is still spotless. A few tiny scratches on the steel sides, but that’s to be expected.

Are you certain the scratches can’t be wiped off with a damp cloth?

I don't want to be "that guy" but quite simply a glass back phone simply doesn't scratch on its own. It's ether come into contact with something in your pocket, on a surface or on your hands.
Can you share a photo of the scratch...

Exactly. It came in contact with something metal or abrasive. The soft lining of a pocket isn’t going to scratch glass.

If you’re sensitive to cosmetic damage on your phone get a case and screen protector.

Contacting Apple because you scratched your phone seems a bit excessive. Just own it and move on with your life.
Calm down.

I haven’t, I’ve hardly moved or left the house since picking up the phone due to pulling my back a few days after collecting (unrelated…)

Yeah I’ve tried, I thought at first it was marks that would come away with a wipe but unfortunately not.

Unfortunately I don’t have a samsung fold to take a photo of my own back. Very similar to the photo in the link I shared.

Do you live near sand?

I live near the beach, and sand gets everywhere. It can scratch glass in the right circumstance.

I still keep my phone naked, and haven’t had any scratches, but I’m pretty diligent about keeping sand away from the phone.

No I wish I did though

Are you sure the scratches were not already there when you unpacked the phone?

Sounds unlikely, but who knows. There was a similar case in 2016 with new Macbook Pros that came with a weird scratch out of the box.

Just get a case or a skin and move on... Apple will unlikely swap it out, and if they did you'd have to wait for a replacement anyway due to stock levels.

I saw a space black unit in the Apple Store that had some noticeable scratches on the back glass. Obviously the in store use gets more abuse but I don’t remember the graphite of the past few years having as many scratches.

Reminded me of iPhone 5 scratchgate 😂

Not necessarily, I was surprised to see that they had 14 Pro models in Purple and Gold available this morning in the Apple Store where I live. So it might be worth just asking, they get new stock every day.

I've encountered the very same problem, where my prior phone, the iPhone 13 Pro, did not have these issues. I brought it in to the Apple Store and was presented with expected commentary -- but I couldn't get it replaced due to the lack of stock. I have not exposed my phone to anything but normal use that I have for years.

Given the commentary about it, I suspect it's a product defect.

I was also told by the Apple Store that whether or not I get it replaced depends on the grace of the Store manager. Um, really? Not for a phone that costs in excess of 1,000.00US.

Does the 14 pro have a glass back. Feels and looks like metal to me.

Hmm "textured glass back" Interesting.

If you want to carry a $1000 device without a case more power to you
