My wife and I both purchased iphone 14 pro maxs on launch day. Ive noticed (bc of nightly bathroom trips haha) that her iphone which sits on her nightstand always appears to be “on”, while mine is always off and needs to be woken up. Both of our phones have the same display settings. How could this be? Thanks for any help!

One has AOD turned on and the other does not? Another reason could be you have a sleep focus set on your phone and your wife does not.

Side note — setting the phone face down will also turn off the AOD to preserve battery life.

I don’t know why it would behave differently if both phones are set the same way. Same version of iOS too?

Something you could try is turning off AOD, rebooting the phone, and then turning AOD back on.

So by your note I take it both AOD’s are normally set to off. Do you verify that when your wife’s phone is appearing on during the night or are you too tired at that point to even care about it?

Is your wife changing setting before bedtime just to frustrate you? 🤔

Sorry, not helpful. Just drinking too much coffee ☺️

I have noticed this as well. My thoughts are that it detects more movement from her during the night, tossing & turning and therefor stays on for her. Mine phone is further up in my nightstand charger and it points a little less at me than it does on her side.

Even without a sleep schedule you phone can turn off the AOD. Mine does just about every night. Is one of you using an alarm and the other not? Maybe one of you is checking you phone more throughout the night and your phone isn’t going into sleep mode.

QA does it help or make worse if leave this feature off or on?? What are the advantages and disadvantages to leave it on or off???
It's tech you paid for; might as well use it. Unless it's at a detriment to your user experience.
