Am setting up my new iPhone 14 PM. The task bar doesn't show the wifi logo, only the cellular connection. The settings app shows that my wifi is connected. I'm waiting on all my apps to download, but non are...nothing is happening. It looks like the iOS 16 update downloaded, but won't install yet because it requires my iCloud data to complete. Why is there no wifi logo? Why are no apps downloading?

So, it is now downloading apps at a snail's pace. There is still no wifi logo in the task bar, the phone is hot, but the settings app says wifi is connected. Sure doesn't SEEM like wifi is being used.

Same issue here, wifi is definitely not connected either. Ran a speediest and it shows LTE.

Ookla shows I'm using ATT cellular, but at over 300mb at least. Hmm. I haven't been able to download the iOS 16 update because iCloud is not finished syncing, but I don't think the 16 update addresses wifi connectivity.

I'd like to know if others are having issues.

Turning off Private Wi-Fi Address in Wi-Fi settings for my network fixed this for me. Not ideal but at least it works... Must be a software bug.

I restarted the phone and briefly got a wifi logo in the taskbar, but things seem to be using cellular still. This is really frustrating, it doesn't seem like any apps are downloading, I'm not seeing the circular progress indicator on any app icons.

I am having issues over wifi, for some reason none of my devices are able to access my account via apps on wifi, but they have no problems on cellular…

To test if this is an issue your having…

On a Mac…

Go to music app go to Account > Account Settings > Log In

This will repeatedly ask for your log in

On iPhone or iPad

Go to Settings > Name > Media & Purchases > enter password

This will just kick you back to your settings…

This won’t happen if your device is connected to cellular or your device is connected via hotspot to another device connected to cellular.

Turned off my cellular data and did a speed test. Says I’m not connected to the internet.

Really would appreciate feedback. Still no Wi-Fi icon in task bar. Wi-Fi shows as connected.

Is this on 16.1 or 16.01?

The default out of the box, it listed it as 16.0. I couldn't update because it said it needed to complete the iCloud transfer, which was not progressing because I was on cellular.

So, I believe I got it working. The wifi logo is in the taskbar and Ookla says I'm downloading via wifi. Everything else is consistent with being connected to wifi.

I did "fix #1" on this site. Right now, seems okay. (the link says iOS 12, but it's for iOS16)

Fix for no wifi ion iOS 16

Edit: why am I not able to post/insert a hyperlink?

This may have fixed it for me. Mine seemed to be taking a very long time to connect and then would drop the Wi-Fi. We’ll see if it sticks. It’s a nice feature so I hate to have it off.

Do any of you have an Adblocker enabled through VPN? Wi-Fi will fail to connect if it’s enabled and the app isn’t installed/hasn’t been launched yet after a restore

The wifi symbol gets covered by the digital island, but the wifi is still on. This happened to me when listening to music and got me worried. At least this is what I noticed.

For me Wi-Fi was definitely not on. I could not connect to my Sonos and speed tests said I was on cellular.

Update that since changing the above setting, my Wi-Fi has been rock solid.

Interestingly, I’m staying at an Airbnb to day and the Wi-Fi works just fine with that setting ON. So there may be a conflict with the router at home with that setting.

For those who are still experiencing the missing wifi icon. Check to see if you have a VPN profile causing an issue.
  • 1: Open “Settings,” Tap “General”.
  • 2: Scroll down, tap on “VPN” or “VPN & Device Management,” and delete the vpn profile(s).

I was having the same issues - my 14 Pro showing that I was not connected to Wi-Fi with this happening in various apps - and never a Wi-Fi icon at the top of the screen. It also at times affected my cellular connection. After a phone session with Apple tech where the VPN subject did not come up, thankfully I found this post. I did indeed have a VPN profile for Encrypt.me which I have a subscription for. I don't recall activating this on my phone, but likely I did it late 2022 when I received the new phone. But something changed either from an iOS update or changes in Encrypt.me because it didn't cause an issue for a long time. I deleted the VPN profile and that seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks for the suggestion. Now if I can solve the issue of almost never getting a sound notification for incoming texts…

thank you! This worked for me when nothing else did.
