So, as always with a new iPhone launch, you can pick up some pretty good deals regarding last years models. I can pick up a used iPhone 13 Pro Max 128 GB for €850. It’s about 6 months old and the battery capacity is still at 100%. It’s also scratch free. Another option for me is to pick up a brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max from my provider with a small discount for €1340. I’m coming from an iPhone X which has been awesome up until the last year. I would love for my next iPhone to last another 5 years, but I’m not sure which one to get. The iPhone 14 Pro Max of course has the dynamic island, which won’t make it feel as old 2 years down the line, but on the other hand, with the money I save on the iPhone 13 Pro Max I could maybe upgrade sooner. I’m not sure here. Any advice on what’s the smart move to make?

14 PM is pretty much dead on arrival since even the “upgraded” camera doesn’t even get good reviews. Save the cash and get a 13 PM or do whatever you want.

Well thats a lie. Even android based reviewers still praise the camera as better. Its not a "wow" better, but is an improvement overall

OP, it really depends on you and what you're comfortable with spending. Because you seem to hold onto phones for a long time, too me it makes the most sense to get the newest model. Its got a faster cpu, faster ram and faster storage speed, all of which will help it last longer down the road
