tell me if you think Apple isn't very smart? My iPhone order go stuck because my Apple Acct Balance $998 was $3 short due to $3 monthly AppleCare fee

This was on my order summary when I placed the iPhone 14 Pro Max order on Apple's website a few weeks ago: (at the time, my Apple Account Balance was $993.79 and the remaining $183.14 was charged to my Apple Card)

Payment Summary
Pay $993.79 with: Account Balance
Pay $183.14 with: APPLE CARD•••

Subtotal $1,099.00
Shipping FREE
Estimated Tax $76.93
Total $1,175.93

This morning, I found out why the order was stuck because of what Apple referred to as "Payment Error"

I get charged $3.73 monthly for AppleCare on my iPad Mini(6th gen, Wifi+Cellular). A week ago, Apple billed me for this month, so the $3.73 lowered my Apple Account Balance to $990.06. I didn't even think of that... since it's just $3.73 that's charged automatically monthly since I bought it last November.

A couple of days ago, Apple was probably getting ready to ship out the iPhone 14 Pro Max, so it finally charged me... but the problem was that they could only take out $990.06 from my Apple Account Balance. Their system wasn't smart enough to add $3.73 to the $183.14 that was already billed to my Apple Card.

After contacting Apple and spending 20 minutes, the rep was finally able to sort it out by manually charging the $3.73. (which could not be done by me automatically online, because it would only allow me to revise payment and authorize another $1175 to my Apple Card!!!)

Am I the only one who think that Apple isn't as smart as they should be when it comes to payments/billings when it's almost 2023? :(

At least the rep assured me that it wasn't going delay my order.... (hope that's true, because this iPhone 14 Pro Max is a birthday gift for someone) The moral of the lesson is that I should have purchased TWO iPhone 14 Pro Max, instead of ONE, when I travelled to Canada to buy their version with physical SIM slots for myself last month....

I had this happen to me. I think their charging software sucks in this regard. It formulates what to charge at the time of purchase, and then freezes once the iPhone is ready to ship, if anything changes. Like you I too had to call to get it all cleared up and see my iPhone ship. Ditto a couple of months ago when buying their new MBA M2…
Would work okay if the item is charged at time of purchase , but then we would scream if they did that and not ship for five or six weeks.
They need to work in their software to take account of any changes to charges at the time you are actually charged for those items not initially in stock.

fortunately, just hours after they resolved the $3 issue, the phone was shipped.... it's already in UPS's tracking system leaving China as we speak! Yay!
