Man this phone still overheating when charging with a 30 watt fast charger. And yes I’ve used a certified Apple charger and the maker 30 watt. Yes I have an Apple leather case. Plus animation stutter when closing apps to go home. I didn’t have problems like this with the 12 pro max. Come on Apple. Dropping the ball. Fix this crap.

Agreed. Use 12W. Best of both worlds.

I’m on 16.0.3 14 Pro Max in a Apple Leather Case and haven’t experienced any overheating. I use a

Anker 6 Port 60 Watt charger only in the road in hotels that stays in my suitcase.

A Anker 4 port charger that I don’t remember what the wattage is.

A Mophie MagSafe car charger

A USB Hub via my M1 Mac Mini.

A Zagg MagSafe Stand.

Had the same thing during the brief period I was trying out the 14 Pro. Yeah, yeah, it was still indexing/getting settled/whatever, I know. But when I placed it on the MagSafe puck I noticed (and was concerned by) how much hotter the device got compared to my 13 mini.

Need to know more about the conditions it's being charged as well. What kind of case are you using? How warm is it where you are charging?

The 13 and the 14 are the only ones that can charge faster with a 30W, so not surprising that it is getting hotter than your 12.

Are u sure the 13 and 14 are the only ones that can charge faster with the 30 watt. The iPhone 12 Pro Max charged fast as well using it. Using a Apple leather case and it was like 70 this morning

If you're experiencing overheating for whatever reason (most typically phone cases are to blame if they're too thick), stepping down to a 20W would give you most of the fast charge benefit - just not at the maximum speed (which will also generate the maximum heat).

15-20W is the sweetspot for decent charging speeds and minimal heat. Avoid wireless charging if a hot phone alarms you.

I’m pretty sure Apple recommends a 20W charger for the iPhone. Also I don’t think all 20W chargers are the same as this was discussed last year in a thread when the 13 series of iPhones came out. Definitely the official one sold by Apple is 100% compatible.

I quit using wireless charging and just plug in an older 12 watt Apple charger and my phone does not even get warm. It does not fast charge but there is no hurry while I am sleeping.

30W is fully supported by Apple on the 14 Pro/Pro Max. 30W was supported only on the 13 Pro Max last year. 20W for the rest.

Even if you used a 140W charger, the phone will only use what it knows how to use.

My iPhone 14 Pro Max gets really hot while charging overnight on the MagSafe Duo Charger, it's been doing it for the last 3 nights in row.

im using an apple 20W with MagSafe Duo Charger.
I've been using the same setup since the iPhone 12 Pro Max

it seems like the issue is software related, per apple tech support I charged the iPhone 100% before going to bed and by 2:00am it was down to 87% I check twitter and the iPhone got hot, and by 6:00am the iPhone was down to 74% so I decided to do a restore and start clean iPhone, so far it all seems good.
